It gets praised because it's a kick ass game (and sure, because it's an exclusive, but that's not exactly relevant here). Popping pirates while bounding from ledge to ledge and flipping across signs kicks ass, and a good deal of platforming and the least intrusive stealth system around makes for plenty of action-adventure awesome. But yeah, the production values and artistic value sure doesn't hurt it. Uncharted 2 kicks ass.

Oh I agree with some of that although I still think Uncharted 2 is a good game. I was more referencing a certain type poster over at GAF or on the internet I see. There is nothing wrong with any game where you roll around and kill people from level to level. Which is why it forms the basis of the biggest selling games on the HD consoles.

Uncharted is good. Mix that with a healthy dose of fanboyism and graphic whores and you get a slightly annoying mix over at GAF. But I like the game so that's all that matters.

Definitely.  It's a great game.  Kind of short and the level design is more cover shooter, less exploring/platforming than U2, but still good fun.

Anyways, i'm with Tha Duck. Thought Uncharted 2 was great, Uncha 1 ... not so much. I give the news there is to be an Unch 3 a thumbs up mixed with a facial expression that expresses mock shock mixed with excitement - like being accidentally thumb raped up the butt on a crowded train.

Eh, I like Vanquish and Uncharted but I don't really care for Gears after the first one (which was mainly because it was new and fresh at the time).  There's a pretty big difference between the two.

In Uncharted 2 you're this agile guy who can hop around and use all 3 dimensions of the environment to take out the enemies.  You can climb and sneak around them or stealth kill them.  You can move to more advantageous cover spots.  Get the drop on enemies.  Plus enemies die in a few well placed shots.  You go pew pew pew and enemy is down and you're moving again.

In Gears you're a slow walking tank who literally SITS behind a brickwall for 2-3 mins while unloading two entire rounds in each enemy while rolling back and forth between another brick next to it.  It also has some of the ugliest most uninspired art out there.   The best thing Gears has going for it is full story co-op with your friends.

Gears was great for jump starting a genre, but it's been passed pretty hard by a lot of games already.  Even 50 Cent BotS is about on par if not better than Gears 2 as a cover shooter.  Gears 3 needs a HUGE jump in gameplay design to reclaim the throne.  Just being Gears 1/2 in organic plant environments is not going to do it.

To its defense, it'll probably sell pretty well and maybe even outsell Gears for the first time.

Uncharted 2 did nicely in sales over time and got a lot of hype and awards.  U3's opening should be much bigger.  Will be the first million seller opening in the series imo.


As for quality...who knows.  Jak 1,2,3 are were all radically different from each other and the quality jumped around every entree.  U2 was pretty different than U1, so I wouldn't be surprised if U3 is pretty different from both.  Naughty Dog is a damn good developer and has been since Crash Bandicoot, but their quality can be anywhere from good to OMG in any given game (or even parts within a game).

As someone who enjoyed Killzone 2 (as much as Gears 1; not nearly as much as the people on gaf), the brief time I spent with the Killzone 3 beta felt bad.  The recent single player video also looked pretty (but) bad. 

For PS3 stuff in 2011, the one game I really want is Infamous 2.  The Last Guardian is probably not going to be next year, but even if it was, still Infamous 2.  Infamous 1 is my favorite PS3 game.

Actually, what has been said about Resistance 3 sounds good.  I'm looking forward to it despite the second game being total shit.

Uncharted 2 multiplayer was surprisingly fun, but Gears 1 multiplayer really good and still better.  Gears 2 was busted at released and I didn't bother coming back so I don't know how that was when everything was settled.

I do like the co-op modes in Uncharted 2 more.  Playing through mini-episodes is more entertaining than just straight up horde/firefight stuff for me.  And taking the treasure around the map also makes the standard 'survive on one map' thing more fun.
