to be fair, I know people who're big into L4D who aren't typically into shooters.  surface levels it seems like it's a shooter but it doesn't work the same brain parts as call of duty or shootery shooters.

half life is also a grey area.  it has puzzles, adventure, and horror game elements.  there's shooting but it's the type of shooter where you could set it to easy and still enjoy it.

I dunno.  There's no reason he should be dismissive of an entire genre of game, except MMOs, obviously.

Noitu Love 2 is an excellent game.

He is currently working on The Iconoclasts, which is a classy Metroid-style game.  There's a very lengthy demo on that site.
I highly recommend you play Spelunky HD when it comes out, as it is sure to be excellent.  Until then, play the freeware version.
Other games you might like, or should like:

Portal
MAME
Star Control 2
Maybe give Minecraft a go.

That's a lot to start with.  If this stuff hits the spot, lemme know and I can recommend more.

Sure, he might have been trolling, but if you can't even answer him without falling into his troll, that makes you look like a goof.  It should have been easy to make a list of awesome PC games outside his little preconceived bubble, but you couldn't do it.  Now he wins.  Good jerb.

to be fair, there are only two games on that list that do that, and it's HL2 and L4D2. Everything else are puzzle, adventure, platformer, sim games.

i don't know, it's weird to me because it doesn't even pin point a genre but a specific type of setting. I don't get people who say no of _____, and I mean in general, as if to suggest everything of _______ is the same. It just goes against who I am as a person and I try to experiment and be as open-minded as possible so the entire concept is foreign to me. It's like saying NO SPACE OPERA to me. What is wrong with space opera? I'm not big on soap operas but I'm open enough to give Downton Abbey a fair shot. Which is why the whole thing confuses me.

To clear up any confusions, I don't really like shooters. I thought Conduit was awful (along with the rest of the world), one of the few games I've ever sold, and I couldn't bring myself to finish MP3.

I do want to play New Vegas though.

Personally, I'm not big on New Vegas. It feels small and, I don't know. I still need to clunk a good amount of hours into it. It didn't really impact me like FO3 did.

Personally, I think Himu is wrong on New Vegas. Although I like Fallout 3, New Vegas offered the better role-playing experience.

Fallout 3 and NV has VATS which can make the game more tactical. I found I fell back on the FPS aspect with low level monsters that I could dispatch quickly.

I didn't directly compare but I remember NV having better real time combat.

VATS is good for the early goings when enemies are a challenge.  Eventually it's just not worth it when I could use my shotgun wreck a deathclaw like it's nothing.

Prey 2 looks really good but it's not quite the same.  Prey 2 is set on an alien world but it doesn't seem like it's about adventuring.

Precursors lets you fly around in your space ship, get into space combat, land to explore planets on foot, fly vehicles around on a planet's surface, take missions, and pretty much do what you want.  It's complete euro jank but very ambitious.  I'd want something like that, only Bethesda-ized.  And that should tell you just how jank it is if I want Bethesda-quality of polish.

I think I posted my specsheet here a few weeks ago and all the parts were links to Newegg. I think someone called me out on listing a 500 GB hard drive instead of 1 TB but then we realized, uh, tsunami or whatever makes those hard to come by.
