a more imaginative story does not mean it's a better story. you said there's not a lot of stories about chemistry teachers turned drug dealers, but there's also not a lot of cases of shows that deal with reality as raw as the wire does.

David Simon was a Baltimore journalist and his co-writer was a Baltimore cop. I'm sure they had some resources between them as far as all the stuff that happens on The Wire.

I would not rank one show above the other. My point is they do very different things. It's stupid to even wonder which one is better.

Breaking Bad is the show I would rather sit down and watch. The Wire is the show I would rather discuss after watching.

Only one show has Saudi butt sex though.

A lot of characters in The Wire are based on actual people Simon met. Read Homicide: A Year of Killing On The Streets, it owns

I'm surprised you think Breaking Bad is better considering The Wire has an entire season where they outlaw drugs. You would be in heaven in Hamsterdam.

Guess I just like good stories :teehee

NEXT TIME ON BREAKING BAD:

Hank: We at the DEA have got to nail him. Heisenberg is a threat to drug trafficking in this state, no - this entire country. The folks down south are even getting big fat slice, and he's in our city, OUR TOWN.

Walt: Yeah, he's a real threat.

Hank: Hey buddy, you smell like a meth lab! Haha, what have you been up to?

Walt: It's the cancer treatment, you know the treatments they have you go through...

Hank: Tough deal buddy! But you do what you can! About that Heisenberg...

Some people needs to post that Next Gen drawing somewhere at GAF soon, but it has to be properly deployed.

Jesus fuck at that anime thread. I'm all for whatever you want to discuss, but that's just awful.

Also, The Wire > Breaking Bad. But it's definitely not fair to compare them in whatever way you want to compare them.

Wait for a Wii U specs page. Ideally either slightly before or after E3 for maximum Nintard meltdowns.

This.  The wire is an objectively better show.  You might prefer taco bell to an authentic Mexican restaurant, but you can still admit the Mexican restaurant offers higher quality food.

And this is coming from a fan of the show.

It has imperfections, just stuff I wouldn't mind though. Breaking Bad imo is a more imaginative story, there's not a ton of cases of chem teachers turning into drug dealers. Losing/changing their morals. I like to watch BB because I like to see what character changes the writers are actually coming up with.

The Wire is good for the opposite reason, a lot the events on the story line mirror reality and even a lot of actors were former drug dealers. The point of The Wire is to provide commentary on real world social issues and link everything from the street level to the political level. It's been said to be sort of a mash of fiction and journalism, which is what it feels like to me.

But I gotta say, Clara Dames rocked my world.

Imperfections? It features some of the absolute worse coincidences in any "serious" television show. S2's finale, anyone?

Homeland better than The Wire? I LOVE Homeland's first season, but it doesn't compare to The Wire's first season. Also the sketchy season finale could potentially ruin the series in the future. In short, it's way too early to declare it's better than The Wire without looking like a bandwagon jumper. The more logical comparison is its first season to The Wire's....and I doubt you could fill a room with people who would argue Homeland S1 would win that.

Clare Dames' is an amazing actress, and her performance in Homeland might be the best performance I've ever seen from an actress on television, but that alone doesn't elevate the show to elite status. The same with Cranston in Breaking Bad

The coincidences don't make me enjoy the show less, I don't judge the plot as a history lesson. It is just a way to get the characters into interesting situations.

I think Homeland had a better first season than The Wire  while trying to explain an even more complex social problem.  The finale could be great or awful but I have faith in the writers. If they can make a terrorist sympathetic, they can probably make a second great season.

in terms of the coincidences in Breaking Bad, they expose a rather casual, poor approach to writing.

You know, usually I'm all for ports. They allow more people to play good games. But in this case, I'm like, annoyed. Because of a bunch of people who neglected to buy an hd system, are all of a sudden excited to play five year old games not due to money (unlikely), not because of the quality of the games either, but company affiliation.

I mean, Wii and DS and 3DS are generally just incapable of relinquishing exciting ports.  I seen a small handful of Vita fans who won't consider RE:R or Monster Hunter as reasons to buy a 3DS cos they're convinced they're coming to Vita (which they might do, idk), but that's it.

Last Story is Nintendo-published I thought.  Fool's hope.

EDIT: Oh yeah, there was of course Monster Hunter Tri -> PSP.
EDIT: And that hilarious Epic Mickey thread, but I was somewhat sympathetic there cos there was no way a Wii version could do justice to that concept art.  Game ended up being ass so everybody swept it under the rug.
