I like reading the black GAF thread.  My biggest pet peeve is when white people worm their way into the discussion and make it about themselves (see: Devolution)  Maybe that is a statement about white people and white culture.  At most, white people should just be passive observers.

I don't like the idea of a white GAF thread because almost everyone there is such an emasculated sissy that I don't want non-whites to get the impression we all like shit like She and Him, Owl City, Pomplamoose, or some other soft rock band that nobody heard of that sucks ass.  That and having non-whites thinking that changing your Facebook picture to a cartoon character really means that we are against certain things and that by changing our Facebook pictures for a day, we're really making a difference in solidarity.

i see nothing wrong with what devolution is doing in the thread. she just likes black meat as far as i can tell.

You should PM her to see if she'll fly across the country get some of your BBC

My interest about this whole geohot/sony/anonymous nonsense has completely flatlined.  I honestly don't give a fuck but if it pisses off the killzone/uncharted avatar collective then count me in.

I should log in over there and go shitballs crazy like all those other PR forum bots.

Nope, don't rip DVDs to my PC. I don't watch DVDs on my PC at all. I have, in fact, a massive DVD collection and Blu-Ray collection numbering in the thousands and haven't ripped a single one.

When I was younger (like nearly ten years ago now), I downloaded a few movies illegally and got caught. I had to switch ISPs. That was the consequences for the action. I think those companies were totally in the right in pursuing me and taking action. I take responsibility for what I do.

i await the results when this whole thing is over  :lol

I love when people say they're giving up on gaming as if its some fucking job or something, its a goddam hobby, you don't give up on it you get bored of it. Woopdie Doo you got bored of your hobby better tell everyone so they know and they understand your well thought out and structured reason for why you feel it is important while no-one gives a fuck.
Did I ever tell the time i gave up on reading, I couldn't be bothered with the damn publication industry anymore, Publishers lost their way and just made casual cook books, I was so happy when I gave up on that industry, nowadays I don't even read anymore, I don't even know how this message was written.

I admitted that I proclaimed on an online forum that I wanted to quit games.

The root of the cause was essentially playing what I was supposed to play vs. what I liked to play.  I'd read what acclaimed games there were on GAF and had to get them since I trusted their tastes.  So I'd play utter shit because I didn't realize that most of these games are acclaimed on GAF for reasons other than their gameplay.  In fact, if you were to read the reasons why some games are rated so highly on GAF, gameplay is pretty much at the bottom of the reasons.  That was my mistake and it essentially killed my love of the hobby for a couple of years.

That was purely my fault and I play only what I like to play these days.  So I'll play the hell out of Dynasty Warriors 7 while ignoring GAF declared monthly games of the forever like Heavy Rain.  So I can sympathize with that post because about 4-5 years ago, I had the same opinion.  It is possible that reading asshurt Sfags cry over their pwecious Sony could sour someone's opinion on gaming...if the GAF gaming section is the only thing you read.

Just trying to play devil's advocate here.

I personally shifted my interests away from gaming. Not completely, I'll buy some big budget stuff (mainly role playing games) and anything like Elder Scrolls but will ignore everything else (racing games, fighting games, adventure games, sports games, FPS etc).

Photography has taken most of its place and I kid you not, the miserable back and forths on message boards debating meaningless shit isn't unique to gaming. I'm certain the internet ruins everything.

I play what I am interested in still. In the past year, I've spent time playing WoW, GW, Vindictus, Rift, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Metroid Other M, DKC Returns, Epic Mickey, World of Goo, Braid, Trine, Misadventures of PB Winterbottom, TF2, L4D & L4D 2, STALKER, Lead & Gold, Red Dead Redemption and a tiny tiny amount of Dead Space.

I can't devote myself to finishing many of those games due to time restraints.

otoh The way I talk about games has changed and I don't like most of the conversation that goes on in the gaming forum. Plus, GAF's bizarre moral boundaries make me uncomfortable. They'll defend pedos against legal sanctions, but not consumers against major corps.

That's because now everyone wants to talk about the "politics" of gaming which is basically intolerable to any sane human being. I mean George freaking H. W. Bush on a pogostick guys, just shut the hell up so I can talk about my shiny ponyta!

I love gaming. Have all my life. Pretty sure I will when I'm an 80 year old man although certainly my tastes and what I play have changed.

What's also changed is my limited patience to deal with whiny people or faux industry wanna be analysts which is why GAF became intolerable for me the longer I was there.

All the people dividing themselves up into certain gaming circles is equally stupid to me but then I tend to make fun of those people which amuses me.

Nah, I kid.  I'm really interested in new devices and technologies, yet I only really replay my old games/play new Zelda and Mario games.  Oh and that new Batman shit.  Shit's hot.

Honestly, the iOS gaming scene is my biggest focus right now.  :-[

I'll admit that 2011 has been the least amount of gaming I've done in over a decade.  I'm just replay games, except at a much slower pace.  I finished Uncharted 2 in a day or two when it was released; took a few weeks earlier this year.  It has nothing to do with the industry or way games are going or anything like that.  It's just that I have work and when I get home I'm so exhausted I don't care to play anything deep or new.  Demos I don't get invested in and old games I already understand are relaxing.

Before was probably a bit overboard with playing multiple games a month.  Now it's more like the late 90s where I'd just play a game a lot and not feel obligated to play what's new.  Not that I did feel obligated before, but it was certainly enticing to pick up pick up the new game people are talking about at the moment, and with more time it was easier to manage.  In summer I'll have time and catch up with stuff.

I'll also admit that one of the things I'm most interested in is the PSP2.  Not for games, but for the hardware.  New hardware is always nice (< lie.  my 3DS is already dusting in my cabinet  :'().

Actually, the one thing I'll say about the industry or whatever: fuckin make mirror's edge 2 already what the fuck someone at least steal the idea.

and wtf is with the ps3 games? as much as people joke about the shoot dudes thing, every game they have is basically shoot dudes.
Killzone 3: shoot space nazi
Resistance 3: shoot alien nazi
SOCom 4: shoot arab nazi
Uncharted 3: shootw hite people and probably zombie nazi

at least the shoot dude quota in infamous is considerably lower than those games

If someone is less interested in games or their life is busy and they just don't have time for games anymore, there is nothing wrong with that. While I've always gamed, there were certainly periods in my life where I was really busy and didn't do much gaming at all for certain years. That's fine.

What's weird is to spend your time obsessing about gaming drama as in "Am I playing the right games" or "Do I have the right system" or or "is my favorite gaming company/console manufacturer hip enough so I can brag about them on said messageboards" or whatever is the flavor of the month drama going on in gaming that people feel they desperately need to have an opinion on. All that shit is weird. Just fucking play a game you like. Sane people don't care about all that other shit.

Movie piracy was happening on the internet in 1996-97. I remember seeing bootleg copies of Mission Impossible and GoldenEye being shared around in vivo format.  People would download them on their dialups links; the average movie was like 150mb.

That's actually how the blair witch project got its original hype. It's well rumored that they spread that movie in random chunks to various irc channels of the time, hyping it as some sort of underground movie, snuff type stuff, and at the end, it would mention that the whole thing would be in theaters soon.

It was pretty brilliant at the time. I think its the first case of viral marketing

I'm kind of phasing out gaming again like I did for a few years in 1996, my personal life is kind of changing a lot and i'm in that "I'm wasting time playing those games" phase again.. I have more fun restoring my old arcade cabs than playing them

The internet affords people an avenue of one-ups-manship that they wouldn't ordinarily have. Instead of coordinating for the better good, it breaks down into a series of smaller circlejerks.

Pretty sad if you ask me.

Pretty much my situation too.  I'm just too busy with school and my internships to be able to buy new games or play them.  My gaming these days comes to an hour or so of an older Wii/360 game.  Bioshock, the Mario Galaxies, or Fallout 3, honestly.  I'm about to buy a 3DS and honestly I'll just play my DS games on them  :lol

I'm still on my ~5 year old phone.  I had a game of Bookworm going for 2 years.  Those 2 minute chunks must've added up to many hours.  Finally losing was equal parts freedom and agony.

I hope the iphone 5 comes out soon.  I've finally decided to buy one now, and I'm closer to the other end and won't settle for a 4.  First thing I'll do is chuck this old piece of crap at a wall for five years of poor reception, poor audio, buttons that don't work and dedicated internet buttons that functioned as "lol stealth AT&T charge when you try and press snooze"
