I take "dumbing down for consoles" on a game by game basis. Sometimes the changes aren't a big deal or even help make the game better [Mass Effect 2] and sometimes they end up making the game worse [Deus Ex: Invisible War]. To simplify it down to "X game isn't as deep as Y game, therefore X < Y" is a stupid thing to do. Sometimes a simple game is great fun, sometimes a really, really deep game is too much a chore to try to understand. But, as always, we're dealing with GAF, where broad generalizations are the norm and there's no such things as middle ground.
