Are you implying that the norm is for threads to actually be about discussion? I only see genuine discussion in the various sheltered pockets of gaf's sub-communities. In news threads people pick a side based on the few crumbs of information offered and war, In gaming news threads people find ammunition for system war (or any form of pro/con allegiance) shoot-outs, etc.

Getting proper heated in a thread that isn't movie-age or similar game specific threads where the contributors are longstanding and have a vested interest is just pissing in the sea as far as wasted effort goes.
