XIII-2 is obviously going to be another polarizing FF, and by polarizing, I really mean another entry disappointing an overwhelmingly large number of people, thus further diluting the brand, but it'll still be my guiltiest pleasure of 2012. Calling it now. I'm just too weaboo for Serah and crew. Uguuuu~ :uguu

(And that, my friends, is the gayest rhyme you'll hear this winter. Merry Christmas)

They know how to make good games that aren't about running through corridors >> FFXII.

Would be very refreshing not to play with a teen cast though, you know adults. No emo shit.

Another guess would be it's 100% backwardly compatible with the PS3 and a  game developed for the PS4 could also run on a PS3 with somewhat less  game detail like the Vita does with PS3 titles but in reverse.

You don't drop support for a platform (PS3) with millions of potential customers for one that is just starting, you support both unless my above reasoning is accurate.

His idea is so naive and cute that I reckon he is 10.

I dunno, have you seen his posts in the PS3 web browser thread? He extrapolates "clues" from random Sony shit that the PS3 is getting a major browser overhaul. Keeps making predictions when it is going to happen, then when it doesn't, he just constantly moves the target forwards and finds more and more clues. One of the recent examples was the fact that some Sony camcorders had started supporting 1080i, which was also a supported resolution for some web streaming technology that he thinks Sony might have licensed.

Here is a recent post

I think it's safe to assume that the gap between the Wii U and whatever Sony and MS comes up with is going to be much smaller than the one between the Wii and the PS360. Even if the specs turn out to be 1.5x or even 2.0x those of the Wii U, they'll remain in the same ballpark.

ff13-2 - crap

I still need to take it up the ass like ZephyrFate and play FF13. Surely it can't be as bad as everyone makes it out to be. (Oh, wait, it probably can.)

Quote
ff versus - lol this ain't coming out in 2012

They still don't have the licensing okay to use "BACKSTREETS BACK(ALRIGHT!)" as the theme song. Which means this will probably never release until it does. Enjoy waiting!

Maybe Square can take note from Dark Souls and make some dark fantasy FF.

No weaboo kawaii shit.

Also ditch turn based combat. Unless it's like FFT.

Have you seen modern Square? I don't want them to attempt a "Dark/Demon's Souls" game with a twenty-thousand-foot barge pole. And FFT is dead. DEAD.  :(

the themes of their games are the least of their problems

they need to sit down and really figure out how to make a good game that isn't just a rollercoaster ride in a dawson's creek anime theme park.

just switching the setting to dark fantasy is just going to result in a crappy dark fantasy game, and bioware are known to be very territorial about that kind of thing

Hey, some of us want that Dawson's Creek Anime Theme Park. For the rest of us, we want real-time FFXI combat with a story that could've and probably would've been improved over previous entries in the series if executive meddling didn't happen.  :'(

His logic isn't incorrect.  Witcher 2 on PC blows the ever-loving fuck out of what a 360 is specced for.  It certainly would be possible to have a downscaled version of the engine that would work on the WiiU.

That all said, few are going to do that.  What's the incentive?  I mean, if it were any audience besides Nintendo's, it might be worth trying to keep them in the multiplat loop, but Nintendo is a pain in the ass to work with at the best of times, Nintendo's audience doesn't come out in any kind of numbers for multiplatform games, and the hardware itself (and the accompanying infrastructure) is likely to require special considerations.  There's no value in it.

The only reason why anyone is arsed to port a game like Witcher is to sell more, and the PS360 is a huge market.

There won't be a incentive to port hardcore games down from the next gen consoles to a Nintendo console, just like there has never been and never will.

Witcher 2 PC > port to PS360 to reach 80 million hardcore gamers > port to Wii to ???

Witcher 3 PC > port to PS4/720 to reach millions of hardcore gamers > port to WiiU to ???

I think it's safe to assume that the gap between the Wii U and whatever Sony and MS comes up with is going to be much smaller than the one between the Wii and the PS360. Even if the specs turn out to be 1.5x or even 2.0x those of the Wii U, they'll remain in the same ballpark.

I'm pretty sure gap will be the same, since the WiiU already looks like a this gen console.

I haven't been following the Wii U spec speculation thread, but as far as I know, the tech is definitely a step or two ahead of this gen. I mean I thought what we've seen so far has been quick and dirty port jobs on un-finalized kits, are they not?

The Wii was ahead supposedly 2xGCN but it looked exactly the same.

Any increase in power between and WiiU and PS360 will be hard to notice, since the tech is so old it will look dated anyway.

Like Marion Galaxy you know, nobody gives a shit it looks beyond the GCN, since it still looks like poo compared to anything on PS360.

From day 1 WiiU will be: wow that looks nice for the WiiU
Next PS and Xbox: wow that looks nice

Unless MS and Sony make some shit Wii hardware, but honestly I don't think they will since they see where this casual business ended for Nintendo.

Why does everybody have a problem with turn based combat all of a sudden? I'd prefer the slight semblance of strategy turn-based gives off rather than mashing the A button like every single WRPG/action RPG I ever played (excepting the Souls games).

the wii u, based on current spec GUESSES -- a reduced die power7 and a radeon 4XXX series proc (4670-4770, most likely; at best a 4870M) -- is a healthy cut above what's in the 360/ps3, but is still only a LINEAR improvement over those platforms. the next gen systems (:teehee) are going to be GEOMETRIC improvement over this gen, or at least ONE platform will be :teehee :teehee

Heh. Once you have your gambits set up most fights can be handled automatically, you only have to get into the menus during more challenging   battles. It helps with the problem most RPGs have where the majority of encounters are so simple that all you have to do is mash A until the enemies are all dead but it still gives you full control when you need it.

Because it makes the game more fun.

The only gambits i use are stuff like hp < 20% and shit, or self: protect, or self: berserk.

By limiting your gambits and making them based solely around how you want your character to develop, the game is 99999 x more fun. I can only imagine this is especially true in the International version.

So basically, what I'm saying is, if you've got a list of like 12 gambits, and you're complaining that the game "plays itself", whose fault is that? You need at most, 4 or 5 gambits at any one time, and you can make it so that each character has their own gambit palette or routine. If there's one flaw with the gambit system, it's that they're not all unlocked from the get go and you have to buy or unlock some of them, which is batshit distinguished mentally-challenged.

Yeah, locking the gambits is dumb. I wasn't complaining about it playing itself. I actually think that's one of the strengths of the game. I'm mostly talking about late-game quests like the high level marks and the harder Espers where it's almost impossible to win without setting your gambits up to keep you covered.

I'm quitting this forum, you guys have the worst gaming taste ever.

fwiw, the moe-zelda is one of my few complaints about the game.  The intro is really distinguished mentally-challenged bad.  But you can't complain that it has a boring errand 3 hour intro, every 3d Zelda EVER has had a boring long errand intro until you get into the puzzle solving dungeons.  It's a non-issue you can't complain about unless you complain about EVERY 3d ZELDA EVER.

Once you get past the intro though and get to the surface, the game is pure gaming goodness without the filler that's usually present in Zelda if you skip all the sidequests in the sky town (which I skip).  It's just smartly-designed levels with puzzles one after another.  Gaming goodness.  But I'm guessing the fact that it's linear means it's just another "hold up and watch explosions game" to EB posters.  Would rather jerk one off to the "walk around anywhere and do nothing" Bethesda games.

He's just kidding I know.

I didn't use Gambits in FFXII. At all. I did everything manually so it played more like a turn-based JRPG.

Really, FFXIII's main problems were a pretty dull story and corridors. It has incredibly fun combat, is stupidly beautiful, and has great music. That alone makes me want FFXIII-2, because I know the gameplay is even more fun (lots of tweaks have been made), and the music I've heard so far sounds awesome.

"Jason Raize '75 - '04"

Would somebody please explain why would anyone wanna change their usernames of all things to this, and why now? Did I miss something?

It's almost like someone finally found a way to outdo Killzone & Pony "avatarization."

Ni no Kuni DS was in the 50% off bins a week after release.  Game bombed on DS (in terms of expectations for a Level 5 game, which is why it shipped like 600k first week), and bombed on PS3 (in terms of expectations for a Level 5 game).

Compared to say, an Atlus game it did fine/good/great.  But for L5 the whole thing wasn't worth the effort.

Regardless, the PS3 version is getting localized, so I'm thrilled. No one else might be, but I am.

I'm sure all know by now that the Xbox name derived from Microsoft's DirectX required for primarily games. Naming conventions for Sony are at the same time more and less obscure...Playstation is obvious but the numbering scheme has some recent connections with features that might not be coincidence. Playstation 2 supports 2D, Playstation 3 supports 3D and 3-D and Playstation 4 is going to support 4K resolution. And yes this requires a very long view that to most of us is impossible to conceive so we think it coincidence.

It blows my mind there are some people (not just Jeff!) on GAF who legitimately believe 4K will actually be part of next gen.
