I brought good discussion to that thread and the previous one. Because I saw the problems ahead of time and called them, and was banned, people took that as an okay to expect anyone (not just me) to be banned or attacked for bringing them up when the game released and had those problems. It was a shite situation that I made the best of. I showed great restraint considering I had to repeat the same basic concept every other page. If you aren't up to the discussion then don't join in and don't get butthurt because you aren't up to the discussion.

BTW, I was banned in OT for saying dumbfucks. I wasn't banned for shitting the thread up as I was dead fucking on.

Well, there were quite a few. As most, I didn't like the story, found it painful and too intrusive, but I also don't like how it influenced the gameplay towards linearity and locked off movement, and made for that horrible slow crip walk segment. The where's waldo parts I hated. I hated the lack of music and the general cheaper feel of the game. I felt like Other M was your average, unremarkable action game. I disliked the auto-aim and how rubbing the dpad around worked better than moving Samus around. Wasn't even a fan of the camera in the game as it created problems in certain areas and due to the hokey story and total lack of atmosphere, the forced camera wasn't really able to add any mood. When they tried to add mood it was those slow walk segments that were just misplaced and pointless. It was also the easiest and quickest Metroid game that I've played.(discounting the nontraditonal ones like pinball) The complete lack of interesting puzzles was a real letdown as well. The graphics looked like toys instead of real environments. It was shiny visuals but not smart visuals. There was the instant death areas that don't belong in a modern game. There was the game destroying any sense of its own game logic at the end on a boss. There was the very suspect handling of Samus.

I liked the end credits though.

I don't think Dragona banned me in the OT. She seemed to be mostly inactive by then. It might have been Kev or someone. The trailer ban is more the one that created the problem and that I had a problem with. If you want to ban for dumbfucks to clean up insults then I can deal with that.

But then there is a very large group who simply define themselves by disliking something that is very popular. It wouldn't matter if it was COD. But of course that isn't COD's fault, and once the dust settles and all the followers have something new to copy, it may be seen in a better light.

Other M should have been a 2.5D platformer mimicking Super Metroid. Such wasted potential. Would have fit in with the rest of Nintendo's 2.5D efforts like NSMBW and DKCR very nicely. Oh well.

There is definitely some of that but I also think a part of it is the "my niche isn't the dominant niche anymore". There are a lot of new gamers who don't give a shit about the things I care about which creates that mentality of I'm angry and want to rage 24/7.

There is a constructive way to channel that energy and then there is a sort of mindless way to do it which lots of people fall into. Since I'm an old dude I find it funny to see young gamers lament about the "good old days".  It happens about every 3 or 4 years in gaming as genres fall in and out of fashion.

For me the good old days is 1987(or was it 1989?) when Phantasy Star was released

it really makes me laugh when people get so bent out of shape when the game they are looking forward to doesnt get perfect reviews, as if it getting a 9 or 8 means that they think the game is trash or something. but hey, what can you do.

I don't have hate toward CoD because back in the day CoD was really legit top-notch FPS campaign with CoD1/2 and even MW1 was very solid.  Infinity Ward made good use of scripting for great FPS campaigns.  After MW the quality has been more dubious, especially since other devs aren't IW, but it's a good series that's just not as strong SP-wise as it used to be; but I can name a hundred other series that have weaker SP games than their predecessors 10 years ago.
