Just because some GAF poster loves Avatar to death, it's no reason for anyone else to hate the movie.

Avatar is enjoyable simply as sheer spectacle seeing it at the IMAX was something special indeed. Outside of that that viewing experience it's just 'ok' but the little battles it brings out on certain forums like Gaf is always hilarious to watch.

A lot of it is down to a large contingent of the loud mouth internet posters presuming their opinions on film are the correct ones. Avatar was an interesting one as for months on end it was derided and many were LOL'ing at the idea that anyone would actually be interested in going to see a film with blue cat things in space.

Then the reviews started coming in and then the astounding Box Office and FilmGAF especially hate to have their opinions undermined i mean it would be an outrage if their 'wise' predictions that the film wasn't going to do shit would not actually come to pass but week after week their it stood on top on the US and world film charts. It was as if James Cameron himself had come to their doors and down to their basements to slap them in the face with his stiff cock personally. They've never forgotten that fact. that idiots on both sides of the 'battle' are still arguing about Avatar in 2012 is astoundingly pathetic.  That said Scullibundo can be a cock of the highest order in most cameron topics.

I just realised i've written quite a bit about this shite my apologies.  :P

I just got Avatar to watch with RiffTrax tonight. Literally within the last twenty four hours.

I have not seen Avatar before. I hope it lives up to Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Not the movie, the Rifftrax. Although.

Star Trek sucked. The movie which I saw in 2009 and the RiffTrax. The Star Trek and Star Wars ones have all bombed, even with the films I hate. (Generations, I'm talking to you.) Haven't seen Wrath of Khan one though.

Marvel vs. DC is one of the biggest fanboy wars, pre-dating gaming by decades. You'd have been silly to think that both of them putting their biggest movies ever in the same summer wouldn't cause arguments like that.

Personally, I do think it'll be hard for TDKR to match up in the box office. It's much longer and doesn't have 3D, which hurts it. Plus, although anecdotal, many more people seemed just hyped to see the Joker more than anything else for TDK, and TDKR doesn't really have anything that hype-worthy for the "average" moviegoer.

As a Batman and DC fan I'd like to see TDKR become #1, but eh, I really don't care that much. I'm more concerned with it's RT actually, hoping it at least matches Avengers there. I'm very happy for The Avengers because it seemed like Joss was struggling these past few years to be able to do anything. Now he can pretty much call the shots and do what he wants.

As a Batman fan who's read the comics for the last two decades, I'd like it to be a good story and don't give a shit about box office figures or RT ratings. Especially since it's the last film.

The fact that people think Nolan made Batman "dark" or complex is vile enough, the idea that Batman and Batman Returns weren't "dark" is icing, and ignorance of stories like No Man's Land and War Games just compounds the notion that people think Batman was the Adam West series only. (See many Arkham X reviews that compare it to Nolan instead of the animated series almost the entire voice cast comes from.)

And Batman '66 was awesome, but hardly indicative of the franchise.

But then I'd also rather a good Avengers movie and good Batman movie that both make billions upon billions. But I also wanted a good Hulk movie and look what I've been given. Someone film Planet Hulk and World War Hulk. You can even fix the latter, I won't complain.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I can't see how Batman doesn't crush Avengers, it's the fucking Batman. Ask people on the street who the goddamn Avengers are.

I've always been in the DC camp comic wise, but I am also in the camp that do not like Nolan movies.

EDIT: Since we have Batman, Green Lantern, a Superman and supposedly a Wonder Woman to come, think they will add the Flash to that mix and make a Justice League film? (No one really cares about Aquaman, Green Arrow n Red Tornado so I'm ignoring them)

relatable characters fighting earth level threats and the human condition >>>>>>>>>>> alien and mystical super heroes fighting aliens

this is why batman is the most popular dc character: he has no powers and he's - in some way - relatable and why the worst marvel arcs take a nod from dc

Meh, Marvel fan, not worth arguing with.

All I know is DC's been on fire these past few years. Final Crisis was great, most of the Batman stuff (Batman and Robin, Red Robin, etc.) is nothing short of fantastic, All-Star Superman is almost transcendent. (Side Note: :bow Grant Morrison :bow2) Whereas you look at what's been going on in Marvel and it's stuff like Civil War, One More Day and Ultimatum.

Not to mention the animated stuff like Batman Year One, Under the Red Hood, etc. that Marvel wishes they could pull off.

You sound like someone who just likes the ideas of the heroes but doesn't actually read the comics.

I didn't say that Marvel HASN'T been wtf lately. That's a whole different bag of chips.

DC has been on fire lately, particularly with the new 52.

But I still prefer how Marvel stories - when GOOD - are told.

I still prefer X-Factor, Daredevil, and more to everything on the current DC line up aside from Animal Man and Action Comics. But as a whole, DC >>>> Marvel right now, no debate about that.

Damian's supposed to be a hateable jerk but after three Good Guy Robins it was an interesting change-up to have a kid with swagger in the role. Note: Best Robin is still Tim.

Everyone knows Tim Drake is best Robin.

In any case, you keep bringing up Batman like Batman is indicative of DC books, when it isn't. Batman is an anomaly when it comes to DC books. Of course, Bat related books take up at least half of DC's current line up but the point still stands.

On a serious note, I like Damian. I warmed up to him a long time ago but he's still a cunt.

I really really like what DC is doing with Superman these days. They turned one of the most boring characters around into one of the more interesting ones.

I didn't say that Batman is the only good DC comic character. But for the most part, the distinction between DC and Marvel is that Marvel is more about humanity and Earth and people, DC is more about space and kicking alien ass into the sun. Batman is the main distinction in the DC lineup in that he has no powers, the same is true for his peers.

Current DC books I think range from decent to fucking amazing:

Action Comics
Superman
Aquaman
Animal Man
Batgirl
The Flash
Teen Titans
Earth Two
All Star Western
World's Finest
Wonder Woman
Batman
Batman and Robin
Batwoman
Swamp Thing

I'm behind on a few books, haven't read Supergrl, Nightwing, or Superboy in months

Does Wolverine even have formal hand-to-hand-combat training? I know he was a soldier or whatever in WW2. Batman knows like every martial art ever, so I would think he'd have the edge there.

Only thing that might prove trouble for Batman is his regenerative powers.

Batman and Wolverine are both chars partially ruined by being popular. Wolverine in that he got god awful stupid powerups to make him live up to fans expectations, and Batman much the same in that he now has to deal with galaxy level threats in Justice League.

@Joe- I believe spiderman is now hanging with the fantastic four. I dont read much Marvel Universe stuff but I have friends that blab to me about it.

Speaking of which when was the last good Spider-Man story, it seems like Spidey's been in a slump since the 90's ended.

Missed this but Spider-Man has SUCKED in recent years. The best Spidey book of recent times has been Ultimate Spider-Man.

DC definitely has better animation. Are there even any good marvel animations currently running?

People have said good things about the Avengers cartoon.  A few years back there was Spectacular Spider-Man, which was excellent for the short while it lasted.

best spider-man was the late 80s spider-man, where spectacular spider-man was kind of a gritty crime book (he wore his black -not symbiote - costume in that), and amazing was the pure superhero stuff
