In some manner he or she is right. When faced with something unexplainable, people reach for their safest explanation, but neither are explanations based upon absolute knowledge. If someone sees a ghost and I do not believe them, it's not because I have absolute proof of the non-existance of ghosts, but because I don't think about or believe in the commonality of ghosts. My safest explanation is that the person was imagining things. On some level, I am dismissing them and baseless dismissal can become dangerous.

The dude that committed insurance fraud reminded me of the time I was working in the meat department of a grocery store. You'd have dumbass customers who would fuck with the meat and then come back to complain in order to get a discount or get it for free. It was usually so blatant that nobody would ever give them a discount or get it for free.

I literally can't imagine a situation where this would be true unless something got like shoved to the back of a case or some other accident. (Discounting absolutely abhorrent places of course.)

Unless I'm the only person on earth who has ever examined the meat before getting it? You can tell if it's shit to start with (because the entire display, situation, store, etc. will be poor) and one of the few instances at a mega mart the guy wrapping noticed the fish wasn't as fresh as he thought (equipment failure) and told me, asked if I still wanted it rather than sell or if I'd come back tomorrow.

Not saying you can't get bad meat at a store, but it's probably harder to do than get good meat from my experience.

A common thing was that they would pour bleach into the package.

Our solution is that we would be more than happy to cut them a new piece and watch us wrap it up, to let them know that we're on the up and up. So they would never get a discount or free meat, they'd just get new meat instead at the same price they originally purchased it at. Usually customers reacted poorly, which is a red flag that they're trying to pull one over on us. We'd tell them that this is their only option and they'd storm off.

We served a lot of poor customers who'd buy all their meat at once, usually at the first of the month. However, they must have left it in their refrigerator instead of their freezer and it would go bad. So they'd pour bleach on it to obscure the smell of rotting flesh. It never worked and I have to wonder why they kept trying. Desperation?

I used to work at a grocery store and I remember a few occasions where a customer would decide they didn't want the meat they picked up anymore and would just throw it on the nearest shelf they could find in the middle of the store and not tell anyone. Then someone would find it later and we'd have to throw it out as no one knows exactly how long it's been sitting out there. So stupid.

I've seen someone try to hide a frozen pizza in the magazine rack at the self-checkouts when they couldn't afford it. (BEHIND MAGAZINES.)

I've never worked in a supermarket but I just don't get why a store would accept it back other than to get rid of the hassle. I mean I could understand if you open it up and there's a bugs hive or something. I've gotten inchworms on packaged produce, but never bothered to take it back, just thrown away the piece and washed the rest.

But I'm still amazed at the whole concept of having meat that's gone bad, bleaching it and taking it back to the store for a refund. It's like some whole other level of thought.

These days, most NeoGAF newbies are drawn from reddit and the Kotaku comments section. They're bottom of the barrel but at the end of the day, the primary goal of NeoGAF is making sure EviLore rakes in as money as possible from ad revenues. So in that respect, these newbies aren't that shitty at all because they will probably do their part better than a veteran like myself who probably has AdBlock installed. EviLore is hoping that new users are too stupid to be aware of AdBlock or too scared to enable it.

During 2004 were GAF threads getting over 500,000 views in a matter of months?

I've always assumed that it was a closer knit community, with a moderate amount of popularity, during that time.
