PS I really like TV Nation back in the day

I watched it for Karen Duffy.

As for Michael Moore and his take on the evil that is Capitalism.

Yeah, I'm mixed on Michael Moore. He's one of those guys who has legitimate issues and arguments towards the powers that be, but somehow always manages to fuck it up by being a total douchebag.

I think they're laughing because that's exactly what big names in the right do and it works very well on people who don't want to do their own fact checking. Most people accept the first "fact" they hear as fact

Yes him trying to get what he says is rightfully his really is stupid  :patel

It is based on what he preaches about capitalism, which he claims is EVIL.

Quote directly from his movie...  Capitalism: A Love Story

This is capitalism. A system of taking and giving... mostly taking.

Michael Moore is on minute 20 of his 15 minutes of fame: he's still around but nobody gives a fuck about him.  I think his general intellectual dishonesty is what did him in.  The GOP gives so much material that it seems needless to massage the truth.  Yet he did it anyway.  O well.

I do like Bill Maher, despite his vaccination and PETA shit.  Probably one of the few people to really say it like it is, regardless of political stripe.  I feel the same way about Matt Taibbi for what its worth...

Maher is also oddly pro-Israel and anti-Islam. He's funny, I like his show, but dude believes some crazy shit too.

Matt Taibbi is kinda ridiculous at times but he typically seems to get his facts right.

I think Taibbi gets a little ridiculous because he wants to sledgehammer his points into people.  He has brought up something that nobody for whatever reason likes to mention: that all kinds of public utilities (roads, parking meters, etc.) are being privatized for little or nothing to shady international investment companies.  I think a lot of people are uncomfortable with the fact that he points out that Obama has brought on a lot of investment bankers while accepting tons of investment banker cash while saying that he needs to reform them.  I don't think anyone has mentioned that Goldman Sachs gave 50% more money to Obama in 2008 than Enron did to Bush in 2000.

Maher also believes in racial profiling for some reason.

GS was also Obama's second highest donor.

I like to point this out every time someone mentions Obama's owned by the union thugs.

Taibbi writes really fun, brutal polemics and isn't completely trustworthy when doing serious analysis.  And for whatever reason, he attracts the most hypersensitive, defensive fanboys this side of Sarah Palin.

I don't like Taibbi.

Not really a fan of Maher although he is occasionally funny to me.

Michael Moore I like the most of those three. But something changed after Roger and Me for me. He went from just being a dude making films that were personal to sort of almost losing his sense of humility. I lost interest somewhere along the way.

As far as political satire my personal tastes lie more towards Stewart and Colbert.

Although I think all of these people serve a purpose and have their different audiences.

President Obama has 'pounded his chest' too much and taken too much pride in the success of the mission to take out Osama bin Laden, according to, of all people, George W. Bush's former Chief of Staff, Andrew Card.

In an interview with German newspaper Der Spiegel, Card said that Obama has "pounded his chest" too much over the death of Osama bin Laden, particularly by going to Ground Zero earlier this week, the site of the 9/11 attacks.

"I think he has pounded his chest a little too much," Card said. "He can take pride in it, but he does not need to show it so much."

Card, of course, was a top official in an administration noted for its theatrical press events, most notably the decision to have President Bush land a fighter jet on board an aircraft carrier before delivering his famous speech celebrating the invasion of Iraq in front of a giant "Mission: Accomplished" banner.

Card said his issue is not with anything Obama has said about his decision to launch the raid on bin Laden's compound, but rather with Obama's actions.

Something I do admire about Taibbi and Moore is that they're willing to pick less popular subjects or take stances that are a bit out of the mainstream, rather than getting boxed in by a sort of Debate Topic Of The Day syndrome.

That's something I'd like to see more of on the liberal side.  A lot of people rush to opine about whatever's being debated in Congress, or some underlying tension highighted by a gaffe (Barbour and the Civil War thing), but we could use people banging the drum about stuff like privatized prisons and the Cuba embargo.

The Bush administration will be asshurt.  I mean, this guy was responsible for about six of the eight years of their foreign and domestic policy but were unable to get him.  I'm sure they were certain that if they couldn't get him, nobody could.  Now to see someone other than them, especially a socialest muslin, responsible for his death must be painful for them.  I will pray for them.

It'd be nice if someone were to make farm, namely corn, subsidies an issue.  If we're all supposed to be tackling obesity and poor health, farm subsidy alterations should have been a given.

Waterboarding helped get Osama bin Laden: Dick Cheney

Quote
"ENHANCED interrogation" methods including waterboarding used on terror suspects during the Bush years probably helped track down Osama bin Laden and should be reintroduced, former US vice-president Dick Cheney says.

"It was a good program," Mr Cheney said yesterday.

"It was a legal program. It was not torture. I would strongly recommend we continue it."

I love the particular cognitive dissonance that allows people who worked for Bush to slam Obama for taking a "victory lap" over bin Laden.  I mean, these people worked for a guy who played dress up on an aircraft carrier and kept Saddam's personal pistol as a trophy for fucks sakes.

A stash of pornography was found in the hideout of Osama bin Laden by the U.S. commandos who killed him, current and former U.S. officials said on Friday.

The pornography recovered in bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, consists of modern, electronically recorded video and is fairly extensive, according to the officials, who discussed the discovery with Reuters on condition of anonymity.

The officials said they were not yet sure precisely where in the compound the pornography was discovered or who had been viewing it. Specifically, the officials said they did not know if bin Laden himself had acquired or viewed the materials.

the shocking revelations of this week are paling somewhat compared to prior weeks.

This is definitely bigger news than him getting caught and shot, at least in the Middle East. Many bearded radicals are in bitter tears, crying "lies! deceit!"
