Brandnew, wouldnt Me Too be a better name.

You know since it's core idea is to get some ports.

Obviously they want more than just ports.  I don't necessarily think this E3 was the most appropriate time to unveil the system - I think the leaks forced their hand.  Apparently a new AssCreed will be unveiled tomorrow exclusively for WiiU, so we'll see what it looks like.

I wouldn't assume they are going cheap with this. Reggie kept saying the system will sell at a great value, and when asked about price, he specifically restated that he isn't talking about a competitive price, but a competitive value. As in, we're selling you the highest spec console that will be out there and a second display along with it. $300 might be their idea of value with that, but $400 might be their value level as well.

i don't get why people want pikmin 3 so desperately, after the whole cave business i can't imagine them being able to do anything to differentiate the game enough from the first 2 pikmins, what are they going to do? add more kinds of pikmins yet again until there is every color of pikmin that is possible?

oh and also are we sure the controller it's not multi touch? i'm pretty sure i heard at the conference that it was

I'm excited for this thing, where can I sell my PS360? Steam will cover things until the definite console experience is released next year. It's a good thing I never cared for online, the transition will be swift and painless.

Imagine PS3/360 announcement using PS2/xbox footage or next xbox announcement using 360 footage.

That is exactly what Nintendo did, last gen console footage is used to hype their "next" gen.

Worst thing is and I fucking despise myself for that, that I even believed the pre-E3 hype that this will be a true "next-gen" console that will somehow be ahead of current high-end PCs (much like when 360 launched).

It's more Dreamcast using PS1/N64 games to showcase its capabilities, if that ever happened.

that said, Dreamcast had awesome port ups of great PS1/N64 games some time after the release.  Definitive versions of Rayman 2 and Soul Reaver are on the Dreamcast; PC version only has the high res 32-bit era assets.

Xbox 360 did have a higher res version of Gun and other Xbox games released for it early on too.

It's no big deal. I thought this was more along the lines of when they first showed the Wii or Microsoft first showed Kinect.  Just a promise of potential.  Again, Vita showed Playstation 3 games as its own back when it was revealed.

I doubt it is a catch up system.  With nintendo releasing under powered hardware we should expect shorter system life spans.  Hell the wii's life span wasn't even that short, it will 6 years when wiiu comes out.  Though we should probablly deduct a year because it's not like nintendo is going to release any good games for it after zelda comes out. :lol

I think it really takes after all the bad decisions from the dreamcast and forgetting the good. The Dreamcast was a generational leap released early with Sega giving it their all to please the gaming audience at the time, which was mostly "hardcore" gamers, with an arcade at home experience plus introducing a lot of qualities that were PC exclusive at the time. Nintendo is releasing a catch up system as a short term fix due to the Wii losing momentum by trying their hardest to cater to all audiences by adding everything they can from all of these into one.

Plus you have to remember that back then 3rd party exclusives weren't as rare, so while getting superior ports you got exclusive games and I don't really see exclusives for the Wii U using the technology in a way that isn't rushed at this point.

I'm sure there will be some good Nintendo games but man the console itself is everything I didn't want to happen, so why buy it?

Wait, wait, wait.  Nintendo should emulate sega?  The dreamcast?  No thanks I'd rather they stay relevant and not get bought by a pachinko company.

I don't care that sega went out with 'dignity'.  They had terrible business sense and their output suffered in quality after they went third party.  It was really fucking sad. I really don't give a shit if Nintendo makes a billion dollars off of wiifit while killing fzero.  I'm not dumb enough to take that as a personal attack.  In the meantime,  I'll have fun with what they do release.  But then again its all a moot point because I'm arguing with an idiot who stereotypes cuz it makes life simpler, m i rite?

Quote from: IBM
IBM's embedded dynamic random access memory (test chip shown here) will help deliver a thrilling new game experience to Nintendo fans. The new memory technology, a key element of the new Power microprocessor that IBM is building for the Nintendo Wii U console, can triple the amount of memory contained on a single chip, making for extreme game play.

Sounds impressive.

real talk: sega is pretty good these days.  they even make money!

and i would argue that aside from tokyo ead and retro, nintendo on the whole has seen their output drop in quality.  i mean, where the hell did intsys go?  nintendo may not have gone third party, but with what happened to their output from having to stretch resources to appease their new casual audience, they may as well have.

As I understand it, Intelligent Systems literally is in charge of designing "intelligent systems".  Devkits, api, developer tools, etc.  I imagine they are busy with wiiU stuff.  Still, they made two Advance Wars, three fire emblems, warioware wii, warioware dyi, rhythm tengoku gold, a lightgun game for wiiware and a mediocre paper mario this gen, I'm guessing Rhythm heaven wii too. Not too bad.  I almost wanna say they did Planet Puzzle league.  HAL does kirby.  Gamefreak does pokemon.  NST had an exodus. Although I hated twilight princess I loved phantom hourglass and think skyward sword looks great and will redeem the zelda team.  As mentioned Retro and Tokyo EAD do great work.  I think with the exception of Wii Play/Chess the rest of the Wii ___ line has merit, even fit.  And hell, New Super Marios Wii is my favorite mario ever... so :rock ead

Last internally developed games I remember coming out of sega was sonic colors and virtua tennis and... valkyria chronicles 3?, but I haven't been paying attention tbh.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata seems bamboozled by the slump in Nintendo's share prices following the Wii U reveal at the company's E3 press conference this week.

Iwata says the apprehension from investors could be because they don't yet understand how much potential the new console has to change the way games are played.

"The reaction to (Tuesday's) presentation and what I heard from people I met and the mood of the convention did not chime at all with what happened in the stock market. It's strange," Iwata told Reuters.

"It is easy to get the mistaken impression that this is just a game console with a tablet," he suggested.

"People who came to the presentation and tried it out have understood very well that it opens up a lot of new possibilities. But people who have not tried it will find it hard to believe that this controller will change things."

Whoever doesn't like the dungeons in TP, as refreshing as they were, probably doesn't legitimately enjoy Zelda to begin with. For all its flaws (mostly the first three or so hours, and general pacing) TP is one damn fine game.

Nah, it's not the NSMB team, that's Software Development Group 4, who are busy working on NSMB Mii, presumably.  This one is by Tokyo EAD Group 2, who previously did Super Mario Galaxy 2.  The original Super Mario Galaxy was Tokyo EAD Group 1, not sure what they're up to at present but probably something weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeooooooooooooo related.

Super Mario 3D isn't exactly exciting me yet, but I trust the developer.

yeah, I was stoked when they announced Mario 3DS and the developer.  All the footage shown here just doesn't look good.

It's weird that the first comparison I could think of was Sonic 3D Blast, which doesn't make sense.  I think it's because it seems like a weird force fitting of 2D and 3D Mario game ideals.  But Sonic 3D Blast wasn't that..
