Samurai Warriors has the "pop up events", but that's different from what I'm talking about.
Back to the chi bi example. The fire attack in 5 and 6 would fail if you let Huang Gai die, so it was to your advantage not to let him. But in 7, they game puts you in control of Huang gai for that segment and you have no choice but to win in that one particular way. Playing from the other side, your job was to kill him, preventing the attack, but there was no "play from the other side" in 7. That scenario was just not possible, Wei got different stages.
The removal of this aspect made the game a lot more Sengoku Basara and a lot less Dynasty Warriors.
