HEY DUDES,

I played Dynasty Warriors 2 and thought it was super fun but hadn't touched the series since outside of a demo or two. Am I correct in assuming 8XLCE this is the best game in the series?

No, it's not. But it's the best modern game in the series.

Best one post-DW5 and since the game essentially tells the same story in each entry, but keeps adding to it, you're not missing anything and can jump right in.

I was always more into the other musou games and never spent huge amounts of time with the Dynasty Warriors games until this one.  Really enjoyed 8 and XL offers a lot of extra content.  Having just completed the story mode in Samurai Warriors 4, I'm looking forward to playing it.   :)

Guess your setup isn't powerful enough for 60 FPS?

I'm gonna have to play graphics whore here and say that I'll be sticking with the better-looking PS4 version.  That level looks absolutely barren compared to the massive amounts of enemies on-screen on PS4.

The way Challenge mode, Free Mode, Ambition Mode, and Story mode all blend together is perfection. You can chill and play challenge mode a bit for example and get PHAT LOOT for a low level character and then continue playing story mode, use that character and not have to deal with a level 1 character. :lawd Then you can go in Free Mode and fuck around and complete some goals and level them up even MORE. :gladbron This is my first XL so I've never had all characters unlocked from the get go before. It completely revamps how you enjoy the games structure.

This is a top tier Musou for me. On par with Samurai Warriors 2 and Warriors Orochi 3. Could be Goty and Samurai Warriors 4 isn't out yet. :lawd

And I haven't even brought up Ambition Mode yet. It is a tremendous improvement on the one in 8 and shits on 7's Conquest mode by a great height. They've finally done it! Fantastic mode with lots of meaty stages and variety while building up a castle Suikoden style. oOOH MY GOD musouuu :lawd

To be fair, vanilla DW8 had much, much less options here and the game structure didn't flow nearly as well. DW8XL feels the most Diablo Musou has probably has ever been. I highly recommend it!

What modes does SW4 have? I've been on media blackout.

It's just story (divided into multiple campaigns) and mercenary (where you use a CAW but also have a partner) modes.  The levels and game play are better than DW8, though.  A bit smaller in scale but so much more fun IMO.  Feels really, really polished and I can't wait to see how the inevitable XL version turns out.

Right now my musou-hype-focus is on Orochi Musou 2 Ultimate for PS4 at the end of next month.  :drool

I like it more than DW8, yeah, but think DW8 is awesome.  I generally prefer Samurai Warriors to Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi to both of them.

SW4 plays so much faster than DW8 does with the new dash-attack system.  It's weird going back to DW8XL and not having that available.

Samurai Warriors has more varied characters, more mechanical depth, better movesets, more in depth maps that feature various goals to accomplish, stage design that requires more strategy, planning, and timing, has higher replay value. It is the superior franchise. DW8XL is the closest I've.ever seen a DW get to SW quality.

Damn. I want a PS4 now.

PS4 musou is fucking awesome musou.  Yeah, DW8XL's framerate is the same as PS3, but those visual upgrades/1080P/MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF ENEMIES ON SCREEN just spoils the hell out of you.

This is why I decided not to go back to Musou Orochi 2 Ultimate on PS3/Vita (I still need to do the majority of the new stages from Hyper and Ultimate) and will be finishing it on PS4 instead.  It's going to be glorious.
:rejoice

Fuck The Last Of Us, THIS is the port-up to get excited for! :rock

Quote
Lyte, you said the vita version of SW4 was good, right?

Yes, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

The only Vita port I wouldn't recommend is DW8XL.  Framerate problems and shit-sound quality.  It's not unplayable, but unless you have to have the game on the go, stick to console.

From Shinobi;

-August 14th
-Retail - 7,980 yen, eShop - 6,980, Premium Box Set - 11,664
-Premium set comes with a Triforce shaped clock, and serial codes for 6 special costumes.
-Will also be a 'Treasure Box' version available on Amazon and Tecmo Koei's online store 'GAMECITY', but no details yet on what it includes.
-Developed by ωForce, Team NINJA, supervised by Aonuma.
-Story is Link an in-training soldier must rescue the Princess Zelda from the witch Shia who has been turned evil somehow.
-2 player mode where one person is on the GamePad, while another is on the TV. When playing alone the GamePad acts as a menu.
-Equipping different weapons onto characters will change the way they fight, including speed focused one-handed swords to heavier weapons that focus on damage.
-Weapon upgrade system and character growth/improvement
-Musou action combined with the Zelda series' Z-targeting means you can avoid attacks and focus on enemy weak spots.
-Zelda series' spin attack appears instead of the Musou Ranbu (?) of the musou franchise.
-Bombs make an appearance, won't just be used for throwing at enemies.
-Impa, a captain of the Royal Army, appears as a playable character wielding a giant long sword.
-Several other characters are playable too. Aonuma was surprised by how many.
-Playable at E3.
-Development is 70% complete.

ω-Force & Team NINJA are the specific developers of Hyrule Warriors.

Download copy will be cheaper than the retail copy, but at around 10,000 yen, there's apparently a premium box to be for sale. (Prices aren't clear. Retail starts with a 7, Download with a 6 and Premium with a 10. I doubt it's a round number)

The magazine has an interview with producers Koinuma Hisashi & Hayashi Yosuke and the supervisor, Eiji Aonuma.

Leaving details of the story to StreetsAhead. I can't translate at all :p

The magazine introduces Link, Impa, Shia, and some of her minions.

It's worth checking out all the recent musou games from the past few years to see which one might appeal to you the most, Slime.   Just avoid the first One Piece game (the sequel is great) and the second Fist Of The North Star game.

I hope to God Koei gets to mooch off some of that money they are using for that Zelda Musou game so they can use its engine for future Musou Entries People Will Actually Play. :drool Imagine that engine for DW9.

Come on, Himu- A Zelda Musou stands a chance of being the most popular one of these games released in the last decade.  Even trapped on the Wii U!   :P

No, it doesn't. Mario Gold did like 15k. Musou usually sells 200-300k units in Japan, much less in abroad, and Wii U's base doesn't seem interested in even buying first party Nintendo titles. Not going to happen.

Cross-Play = Online multiplayer, in the same game, via PS3, PS4, and/or Vita.
Cross-Save = Cloud save system, Plus not required, letting you upload and download the same data for PS3/PS4/Vita versions of the same game.
Cross-Buy = Typically has meant buy on PS3, get the Vita version free.

PS4 orochi coming west??? :o :o

Famitsu has gone live with its first preview of the PlayStation 4 version of Samurai Warriors 4, providing us our first look at how it compares to the PlayStation 3 version.

Samurai Warriors 4 - PlayStation 4 Version Samurai Warriors 3 - PlayStation 3 Version

The PlayStation 4 version will offer enhanced graphics, better lighting and shadows, and a greater number of enemies on screen. It will also support cross-save between PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.

First-print copies of the PlayStation 4 version will include a set of 18 costumes based off the first generation Samurai Warriors.

The game is due out in Japan on September 4 and in North America and Europe this fall (alongside the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita versions).

Hey lyte, is the framerate in ps4 dw8 better than ps3 or about the same? Thinking of getting the ps4 version when i get a ps4 and selling dw8 + xl since those two combined still seem to be worth money.
