So why the fuck did they do the 360 footage with install when it's well known that the 360 version has a bug that makes it look worse with an install?

wait, oh, they do the comparison with and without installation? haha.

for you PC people, there are a bunch of ini changes out to improve the game (visuals, controls, etc)

and more and more it sounds like you should be playing this with a 360 pad

I watched a bit of that giantbomb stream earlier.  Visually the game isn't too pretty.  The Fallouts look like butt and this certainly looks better, but still a lot of the older trailers/images looked really nice.  (yeah yeah low quality stream but some of the problems are still noticeable)

No surprise there. This is first and foremost a console game after all.

The minimum PC requirements, as tweeted by Bethesda's Pete Hines:

    * Dual-core CPU, 2.0 GHz or faster
    * 2 GB RAM
    * DirectX 9.0c video card with 512 MB RAM
    * 6 GB HDD space
    * Windows XP/Vista/7 [32 or 64-bit]
    * Internet access for Steam activation

And the recommended spec:

    * Quad-core CPU
    * 4 GB RAM
    * DirectX 9.0c video card with 1 GB RAM - GTX 260/Radeon 4890 or higher
    * 6 GB HDD space
    * Windows XP/Vista/7, internet access, etc.

Holy shit only 6gb? I'm set then! And my 5770 is well above the recommended minimum :bow

My core 2 duo will hold me back though; I also have 3.14GB RAM but that seems fine. Fuck, I'm tempted : /

PC is the way to go, as always.  I've been watching Kasavin too, he's busy killing walruseseses.  Walrii?  Something.

And the influence of the recent Fallout games on this iteration of TES is readily apparent and fully welcomed by me.  Can't wait to start beating shit to death later tonight.

Just played through the beginning and first story dungeon this morning (the one you've seen a million times in the trailers). Seems really good, was dubious at first as the combat was so jarringly shite after playing Dark Souls exclusively since it released but I ended up having a blast, archery feels great, magic too, only using melee as a last resort currently. Was just playing with a friend but I think I'll start a bosmer archer today, archery and its perks are hot.

Ended up going to sleep and got to work late. I didn't even start it up :(

Going to for my typical smarmy rogue character. Would like to be a bit more trained in bows this time around. I had thousands of arrows in Oblivion, problem is they have weight so you couldn't carry too many of them.

Still a fair amount of annoying Bethesda shit. Went through first dungeon, got up to a Draughr Overlord but couldn't loot it once killed, I just thought it was a bug. Later on we got a quest to recover a Dragonstone and had to trek back to the same dungeon, the corpse, which was now magically lootable, contained the Dragonstone  >:(

Hate shit like that. If the dungeon has a quest tied to it, you should be able to grab the item and complete it when you eventually run into the quest. Or better yet, activate the quest with some vague message about the quest giver so you can go and complete it.

you still need it for wireless - for X360 wired pads they work fine with PC as is.

it's one of those crazy things: the PC x360 style pads don't work on the X360, but a stock wired X360 pad works on a PC. *baffle*

oh yeah, that's it. Wired pad is gonna be a pain playing on a TV most likely though. Definitely :piss on that

it could just be a licensing thing or it could just be the difference between xinput and directinput

it's probably a licensing thing.  I don't think those newer Logitech gamepads work on the 360 and they have a directinput/xinput toggle on the top.  The PS3 works with most direct input controllers, but no xinput controllers.

I use the razer onza for PC games.  It's just xinput so it works fine with the existing drivers.

It's cool that Bethesda actually took an idea from mods of their previous games and implented it in Skyrim: windows that light up at night. A nice little touch.

Edit: I actually came across a puzzle in one of the dungeons, it wasn't very hard though.

Needs HD texture mod - STAT.  Playing at 1920x1200 on Ultra and the game looks good but some of those textures.....not so much.

And yeah, the 360 pad is the way to play this on the PC.  Just bump up the sensitivity and you're good to go.

Is there a quicker way to quick swap weapons/skills like Fallout 3, or is the quick favorite menu as fast as it gets? Switching magic is a little cumbersome.

I just can't get over how greatly improved the UI is, it seems like everything is much more concise and useful and FAST. I'm not having to dig through all these menus and tabs to find what I need. Also, the quick favorite menu is great, I've got my bow and my magic in there so I can swap between them depending on the flow of the battle.

Favorite is as fast as it gets. I'm fine with it.

I've done one dungeon, I'm level 4, and I feel like I'm already on the adventure of a lifetime in this game. Traps, obstacles, monsters, thieves, snowy mountains, adventure, the combat scenarios, the skill system, the clean ui, the keen attention to detail. Man, I just...I just haven't played an rpg this good in a while and I'm just a few short hours in. Fantastic first impression, every thing I enjoy about rpgs contained in a multitude of a few short hours. Bonertown.
