Watched the first episode of Hero=Mask, it's pretty good. Some dramatic crime stuff mixed in with some weird anime supernatural stuff. Pretty well-made overall, better than most anime.

One of my movie groups I'm in was going to see Mamoru Hosoda's new film "Mirai" in the theater tonight so I made an effort to escape work and see it. I mean hey Girl who Leapt Through Time was pretty good outside that terrible ending and Summer Wars was a ton of fun.

Knew nothing about this, and uhhhhh, this is the most kiddy film I have ever watched as an adult :lol
There are exactly 2 target audiences for this film. 30-something/early 40-something parents & little kids aged 10 and under.

It was alright but as someone not in that target audience it was kinda dull. One of the gals in my group fell asleep lol. Like it has a nice little lesson and the concept of a story about different generations of a FAMILY seen through the eyes of like a 4 year old kid is neat, but the execution is just kinda average. You can definitely tell watching it that the movie was made because Hosoda's a dad with young kids and he wanted to make a movie about being a dad with young kids. There was even a little interview after the movie with Hosoda where he basically said the story is based off him, his kids and his family.

Also the music was strangely disappointing for the type of Ghibli/melodramatic film it is. Not everyone can be Joe Hisaishi or Radwimps I guess.

I guess I'd give it like a B-, but if you're a 30/40 something parent with young kid(s), go see it!

Thanks for the review. I actually thought about taking my daughter to go see this, but the showings are on weeknights around the time she goes to bed.

So Instead of being able to enjoy the journey, I was constantly yelling for characters to act more sensibly.

3.) This isn't really a flaw but more a pet peeve of mine. But as I grow older, I'm less interested in a plot mechanic where the bad guys have all the knowledge. And the good guys have no knowledge and therefore seem like idiots bumbling around in the dark for most of the show. This is a pretty common plot device and if everything else is working in a show, I won't gripe about it, but when I have issues with other parts of the show, I start to find this device grating as you feel like you are just waiting for the heroes to catch up to knowledge you have had for like 20 or 30 episodes.

So yeah I think that's about it. I like original FMA but it wouldn't come close to cracking a top ten of anime for me personally. I'll finish up brotherhood at some point and post some thoughts about that.

Finished up Brotherhood finally and yeah I much prefer it over the original. It makes more sense. It has a general better sense of pacing. There are a lot of fun moments with the side characters. Really good anime. The ending mechanically is a little clunky but emotional wise it makes sense and delivers well enough. Solid anime.

Shadowskill and it's ovas are c-tier anime so you basically have to open your wallet or be pirate scum to watch it. The OVAs are easy to find, MANGA Ent had them for awhile and they were pretty common if you're really about that life. I think Pioneer/Geneon had the rights to the tv series? I love this shit but even I haven't seen the entire tv series (I've seen like 16 or the 24-26 episodes tho so im still a G)
