"Absolutely Critical: A flanking shot guarantees a critical hit." Sad thing is, it still wouldn't usually be worth trying to flank an enemy on impossible mode with this, because you still run the risk of aggroing additional enemy groups and ending up in deep crap. However it would be a boon for enemy flanks since they don't give a crap how many aliens they lose.

Rest of these look like they'll make the game more random/difficult.

Been playing a bunch more of this. Man. Sniper + SCOPE + plasma sniper + double tap + squad sight = crazy OP.

Marathon isn't scaled right IMO. You are basically getting to research 1 tech per month yet alien encounters seem to happen at the same pace. I can already tell I'm going to start needing beam weapons months before I'm able to start research...... and waiting a month for that.

On the flip side, you won't run out of alien parts for building weapons/buildings.

I doubt they extensively tested the balance on any of those new game modifiers. They were already buried in the game's code, just needed a patch (or .ini editing) to bring them out.

I'm surprised they haven't released more DLC by now.

Did the console version ever get the big PC balance/bug fix patch?

PS3 version has gotten a couple patches, but I haven't played the game with them to be able to tell what was affected

Beat it on Normal tonight. Gonna try Classic Ironman, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to fuck it up. I kinda rolled back on saves a few times during Normal to save my troops.

Finished on normal tonight. Sort of over the game by the final mission since it was so horribly scripted. It really needs some more randomness and variation.

Still no GAFer/EBer deaths in X-COM but it's getting tough. Africa has gone to shit; I didn't know about sending satellites/interceptors until it was too late. Fuck, construction takes so long. Finally got some shit flying now though, hopefully I can save Europe and South America; North America is lookin good.

I also need to be a lot smarter about who I send on missions. So far I've been sending my main 4-6 guys (Eschalon as heavy/rockets, Blackace as assault/shotgun bro, Cajole as assault/healer, Himu as overpowered sniper, Wrath as heavy, and John Matrix from Commando). Meanwhile Devolution, Beezy, Triumph, myself, Vasquez (that Hispanic chick from Aliens), Walter Solchak, and Etoilet (who is bald and Asian btw) only see action when my main bros are injured. I need to start sending the rookies on the easier missions, and save my badass wolfpack for hard shit like Europe, which is kind of getting destroyed right now.

Good lord, snipers are so fucking overpowered lol. It's like no matter where I position Himu, he can get a one-shot @ 80-98% accuracy.

lol my character died. 1 mission, 0 kills, dead. It happened on the mission where you invade the alien ship; first I panicked due to some big melee dude charging me, and then a freak crit took me out. Oh well, everyone else is alive outside of Jermain Jackson, who I created for some reason.

God the sniper (Himu) is so good in this game. I'm trying to get another one but I can't really afford to do missions that reward one; for some reason they're all in NA, whereas I need to focus on Europe before I lose more counties lol

Pretty easy to break the game with squadsight snipers + ghost armor to spot for them.

Other than that it's hide behind hard cover and reaction fire.

Nah. Flank, flank, flank and flank some more. Most hard cover is going to be shot to shit within two turns. Not to mention the poison clouds and grenades that some enemies use.
