"Unlike 2K Marin's previously announced XCOM shooter, which sparked tempers among longtime fans for turning its back on the series' cerebral roots, this title is a full-on strategy game that puts players in command of a global anti-alien defense force," Game Informer said.

More like they're going to rip off X-COM: Apocalypse:

A new feature is the choice of playing the tactical missions in either the familiar turn-based mode or real-time. In the turn-based mode, the aliens and humans switch turns to perform actions while in real-time, everything happens simultaneously, though the game can be paused at any time to issue orders to agents.

I've heard a lot of great things about the original X-Com, and it sometimes makes me feel like a horrible human being for never having played it.

I never really got into X-Com back in the day (it's something I'd probably be at least somewhat into, though... one of these days I'll give it a shot...), but this is a total relief. I was expecting another outsourcing of a beloved classic Japanese franchise to a third-tier western developer.

It was an amazing game for its time although I doubt I could bring myself to replay it now.

So this new version is a very good thing indeed.

Well, I'm excited even though I've never played X-Com. Love me some Civ. Is X-Com turn based strategy? Please say yes, can't really stand rts outside of Warcraft and even then I'm pretty terrible at WC.

It was turn based although somebody up in the thread posted it will have both turn based and some version of real time.

Hm, another one of those old games I always heard about but never actually played. Would buy this if I had not bought so much old crap where I don't have any idea how to play them (Ultima VII wtf) over the holiday sales.

Didn't even know the name "X-Com" until last year, but Firaxis always has my cherry. Played Alpha Centauri two days ago, wanted to play for two or three hours, ended up playing for like 6 or 7. It was insane.

X Com always creeped me the hell out. The music and atmosphere always kept the tension high and really gave you a sense of foreboding and fear of not knowing what you were up against.

So they figured the most respectful way to modernize a series about stopping a global alien invasion is to turn it into a game where you shoot trendy young professionals in the woods? Looks like it's time to hitch our wagons to TEAM 2K MARIN.

Yeah going by everything that's been written about this, all the components that make up a good X-Com game seem to be in place. Civ Rev on XBOX was a monstrously hideous game so this looks fine by comparison.

Who plays a strategy game demo for difficulty? It's a demo. A demo in a strategy game is to see how it works, if it has potential for depth (it does) and all the main features to entice you into buying it.

How in the world is the demo bad?
