Why B?

That was my plan too, but for some reason there is a Wii U in my living room.
Why B?
I can't answer for him, but I find Microsoft's first party exclusives lacking. Besides Gears of War, Halo, Forza, and maybe Fable there aren't many exclusives that don't end up on Steam sooner or later.

i would make some declaration but i'll probably do the same thing I did this gen-- bounce back and forth between the two, playing exclusives.

Really have to see how they're both handling BC with all the DD games we bought this gen first.  That's a bit of a nail biter, to be honest.  Seems like it would instantly sink a company to not have DD games be BC, but hey, games industry

You guys ready?

Bring it, I want things to be interesting next gen. If this fails then that's probably it for the industry and crashola here we come.

I will laugh my ass off at whatever they end up calling it though. "Xbox 8" "Xbox Loop" "Xbox Infinite" :lol

I will most likely buy a PS4 unless Sony screws up and makes it a weak system with gimmick controls. In that case I'll stick to PC gaming for a while.

I doubt Wii U will be emulated with reasonable performance any time soon. It'll happen quicker than PS3 and 360 emulation but it still won't be for a while I think.

If MS announces at E3 for a fall release.  I'm down for whatever and will almost certainly purchase it. I will only own one next gen console. A PC and whatever ios platform I own. Have no interest in Nintendo anymore and owning a ps 3 this late in the gen for me has been redundant at best.

I might buy it at launch if it's BC, but it's Microsoft so it won't be.

Youre kind of right bout those exclusives but PC didnt get Halo, Gears 2/3, Forza etc.

I think my laptop def wont handle next gen games so its either upgrade or get a new console.

Im still not sure PC will get the 3rd party support it has now... For some reason I think most games will go to consoles in the beginning, to push sells and whatnot.

So far every 720 rumor is in favor of BC.

MS will have a huge shitstorm if digital stuff is not transferable.

Developer leak? Sooner. Simply due to them chomping at the bit to talk about what they are working on and how much they can do. It is already at a breaking point. Just read some of the interviews. Even interviews with NO real connection to next gen you get some yahoo trying to put some data in there. There is a very clear reason. Devs need to spread the word as well.

Official. MS will do their own event but not sure on the timing.

Additionally people not directly involved in games but in other bits of the systems. Television partners ;), and so on will probably leak as well.

September launch,if things go well

http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/2/3829276/microsoft-reportedly-acquires-home-automation-startup-r2-studios-for-xbox-team

Quote
We knew that R2 studios, a startup from the creators of the Slingbox that was focused on home automation solutions, had been courting acquisition offers from the likes of Apple and Google — but the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Microsoft was the company that was able to close the deal. The news breaks less than a week after Blake Krikorian, one of the founders of id8 Group R2 Studios Inc., stepped down from the Board of Directors at Amazon.

The price of the deal was not disclosed, but according to the WSJ Microsoft also acquired several patents owned by R2 Studios that covered controlling various electronic devices. The report also states that the R2 Studios had been working on different ways to distribute and display content on televisions, a goal that would line up nicely with Microsoft's ambitions to make the Xbox the center of the living room.

The company has been aggressively rolling out non-gaming additions to the Xbox experience in the past year, including numerous content deals and the SmartGlass second-screen application.

I think Microsoft will have better hardware and services, and I think Sony will have better exclusives.  Microsoft doesn't have many studios or franchises I care about.  A lot of that can change, but it's not like how it was.

To be fair, things are different for both of them.  People, myself include, bought the PS3 for the potential we thought it'd have based on the PS2.  Most of those big PS2 franchises came to 360, day and date.  Even Metal Gear isn't exclusive and MGS4 was one of the big draws for the system...before people played it.  So few third party exclusives these days that there's no real difference to these systems.  Although, the rumor of Bungie's Destiny staying exclusive to the Xbox could be interesting if it pans out.  One of the advantages the 360 had back then was being the only next gen console.  Dead Rising, Saint's Row, GRAW, fukin Table Tennis, Fight Night, etc. made that first year great.

Me being dumb and thinking of it in this gens terms.  Can't realistically predict how things will turn out from how different the PS2-era was from the 360-era.

I will basically breakdown what has already been said in the other thread. The person I talked too, recently, who has now been spot on with everything the past 4-6 weeks, and before that as well, down to the day and date of each announcement, stated clearly that MS's goal is to return to the release style of the epic year everyone remembers as the core gamers year. At least sticking with that mentality for 2-3 years internally(core IP studios and sub studios), backed up by the new studios they opened recently, and as far back as 1.3 years ago. Additionally their goal, bar none, is to dominate the living room in every way, despite any obstacle whatsoever as this is the last true gen where the living room can be won for all groups, starting with core gamers. You can see the other thread for some of the other stuff I posted about, the day before the announcements, including today's as well as the rumors about the hardware in the new system. It is honestly a take no prisoners do anything attitude to take the space starting with gamers but also incorporating other parties.

Take that with whatever you wish. By looking at the days and dates of posts you can see what has been said, more importantly when.

The current-gen Kinect bundle is already $299. How will Microsoft be able to launch a high-powered next-gen system with a bundled Kinect at a reasonable price? Won't that put them in danger of being a $100 more expensive compared to their closest competitor?

Cerveza mas fina

  • I don't care for Islam tbqh

I don't think Kinect is expensive tech wise (just a 10 buck camera?), it's just the R&D of movement recognition software probably (but I have no clue really).

archnemesis

  • Senior Member
The tech in the current Kinect isn't very expensive (640x480@30Hz RGB camera, 640x480@30Hz IR camera), but just the surrounding parts will cost a bit extra. I'm sure they can add one if they keep the tech at the same level, but I was expecting an upgrade so it could actually do things as advertised. Aren't they getting tired of reviews moaning about unresponsive controls?

Well with the extra power in Durango the tech side is covered.

HD webcams are like 30 bucks from Logitech, bet MS gets that shit for 15/10.

I doubt next Kinect will be unresponsive.I think the biggest complaints will be fixed because that is how hardware(MS) world works.

They will probably have something new in a year or two(tied to Kinect).

Rumors say that MS will have multiple(very distinct) systems and subscriptions.

Sounds like a mess to me,but we shall see.

It depends what they want to use it for. The tech is many years away from replacing traditional control methods. It won't be able to detect pedal motions or distinguish minute hand movments, like in this Forza Kinect live demo. However, I'm sure it could be a great complement to a gamepad if it just could read larger motions correctly. Didn't the Steel Battalion game try to implement this? Or maybe that was Kinect only.

I strongly believe that a subscription model could be a huge success in the US where people are used of buying things on credit. That would also make it a lot easier to include a Kinect, a headset, a large HDD etc.

I'm expecting actual games (non-kinect) will take up about 5% of the reveal.  The presentation will be all about the extra services and shit, as they've been doing with the 360 over the years.

Yep,just like launch 360

he also said this, responding to some 2011 article

Quote
Wow, they even misspelled my name. I said what I thought, not what I heard. I talked to a number of developers and publishers in 2012 who insinuated heavily that a new Xbox was originally set for last year, and talked to a developer who was contracted for an exclusive title that opted out when the system was pushed. They've since released that game. All of them were palpably frustrated at the foot dragging. And last year Yves Guillemot went on record saying he thought the longer generation had been harmful.

All of the hardware info I've heard has been over the last 9 months.

Quote
But I've heard Microsoft is pursuing certain kinds of exclusives aggressively.

hmm

So what big 2012 game runs like shit on consoles and it feels like next gen?

Another interesting tidbit, look at the date today
