Speaking of this, I really don't follow TV tech. Is 3D pretty much officially dead, or is anyone out there still trying to make a genuine push on that front?

The Vizios are, dunno about the others. But that's more about saving face IMO than believing in the future of 3D.

I feel bad for TV manufactures. My TV is pretty much dead last on the list of the things I'm looking to buy. It will be amusing to watch them scramble around for a few years desperate to find something that draws people in. Not only is my TV good enough but I'd rather upgrade everything around my TV first. Next gen consoles, new streaming boxes, tablets, phone, etc...

That said every time I play with my Vita I want an OLED TV.

360 was successful critically and commercially.  PS3 was flopping around in its first year or two or three.  Sony went from a #1 to #3 in such a short span, led to desperation in the ranks.  See: Gamecube-era Nintendo.

There are a lot of people who won't buy online games from other storefronts at this stage (origin for example) unless they can redeem the codes in steam. There are some understandable reasons for this of course and then there are some people who go overboard with it.

Haha, "disaster-ish in some aspects"?  It lost far more money than any of those systems, had the worst versions of pretty much every multiplat game, had the highest price tag, and has a market share relatively similar to the Cube and lower than the N64. 

I'll grant you, games wise it fared better than half of what you listed, but I think it's far more accurate to say it was disaster ish in some aspects compared to anything, and an out and out failure in other aspects.

if only this was true. Maybe you didn't get onboard with this gen of consoles early enough to appreciate what a leap it was over PC graphics at the time?
