various 'sources' are telling various press peoples that it's more or less legit, so it'll be a nicer looking version of that (?).  and there's supposedly more to the controller that isn't revealed in the picture.  some people are guessing it's related to a patent for a 3d depth sensing camera in the controller itself.  but it's probably related to the not-Kinect camera.

Durango rumors:
- They note that Microsoft has been less communicative with the editors than Sony, which would explain why we have less information about the next Xbox (this last part is my own guess)
- Out before December 2013 in the USA, announcement this semester
- You will be able to stream content from your console to another device, like Smartglass on Xbox 360, or the Wii U Controller. They refer to this as a "companion app"
- Always on, always connected. The system will download content which you will then be able to simply activate (read: buy)
- HD Kinect integrated, allowing the user to "wake up" the Xbox with a word or a specific gesture
- Microsoft wants to ban used games, but not 100% sure yet. No decision taken yet


Orbis rumors:
- Out in 2013 in the USA
- Like Durango, Orbis will allow you to stream content to another device, and Sony could even announce a partnership with Apple at E3 for this functionality to work with iPhones
- The PS4 controller will have a touchpad and a camera (their wording is a little weird here, maybe they mean the system will have a camera, not the controller...)
- Just like the Vita, there will be some "cross-buy" high-profile multiplatform games. You buy a PS3 game, you also get the PS4 version. This would also work with 360 games! A nice way to have PS4 games before even buying one. Another example is given FIFA '14: you have the 360 version and achievements; those achievements will be transfered to your PS4 account too.
- The 02/20 event will have more videos than gameplay demos

Lastly, both systems will be in the same ballpark power wise, and according to their source the rumors that are on the internet are "80% true".

I like this. I like buying a game on Steam and being able to play it on either my Windows desktop or my MacBook. Plenty of folks have multiple consoles in the house and would like to be able to play a game in different rooms depending on the circumstances. The issue is whether they will allow multiple simultaneous instances of the same title...probably not

you can clearly see the button to the right of the touchpad, the dual cameras (not-Kinect), and that it's likely using bluetooth again (from the led numberings...maybe a stretch).  not-Kinect is interesting/awful because if the cameras need to be that far apart, it'll be even winder than the Kinect.  Unless it uses two separate cameras connected with a cable (the guncon 3 sensor bar was like this).

It's like they took a pic omitting the triggers specifically to be a tease and wind people up. Esp considering it looks quite different with that ridge before R1 and L1. I think blowing their budget on gimmicks might backfire like the Wii U. No clue how much the dual eyetoys and fancy controller cost, but it's probably not insignificant. MS with "always on" integrated kinect doesn't sound much better.

Do we know what the thing in the middle does yet? The touchpad type thing? I'm reading it can be pressed? Do we know if its able to light up or display any overlays (ie. is it a screen)?

I'm thinking it may be for some rudimentary controls (touches, swipes, gestures etc) and for social features. It'd be cool if it showed your opponent, or displayed some kind of T9 keyboard, maybe gave you live messaging direct to your controller while playing a game... I wonder if they'll have NFC in it like Vita and Wii U?

every "source" is saying it's a normal multitouch trackpad that you can press in (as you would on any laptop)

the other theories are that it's a screen, because the surface is transparent or something, and that it's a depth sensor like the leap motion ().  the depth sensor one is based on a Sony patent that shows a depth camera inside a controller, and the size and shape of the area is similar to the leap motion thing.  but that goes against the multiple "sources" explanation of what the controller is, plus expensive and battery life and other reasons.

Streaming PS3 stuff to Vita could be pretty hot, especially with a Netflix-esque sub. LTE modems here will be up to 150mb/s by that time so it could be decent performance at Vita resolution. My experience with OnLive was pretty miserable though

is it confirmed that this is the BC solution, or is it speculation based on knowledge that it will stream PS3 games? this is disappointing as the only option.  the PSP/Vita can play PS1 games through streaming (remote play) and regular emulation.  keep that hope alive 

upside, maybe it'll come to to other devices: vita, pc, tablets, phones, etc.  And people only mention streaming PS3 games, but if it does PS4 too, maybe Sony sells a cheap Roku-ish PS4 that's only for streaming games.  whatevr we ll see next week.  worse case,maybe microsoft will fare better.

Based on my experience with PSN, I don't have a lot of confidence in Sony's ability to smoothly stream a game, but I guess we'll see.

They've certainly proven incompetent in the past but at least they seem to be changing that a little. Downloads on psn are actually faster than xbl for me now.

The bigger thing I haven't seen too many people commenting on (if this really is about backwards compatability) is how they'll charge for it...

There is no way for them to tell that a PS3 game that you have is actually yours. There were no unique passes in place for any of these games, so you're not going to have a digital record of ownership anywhere, and they can't just let you pop a disc in to check - because you could have rented or borrowed it. Its the same conundrum they had with the idea of letting people transfer UMDs to Vita.

Essentially, people are going to have to pay for the games they want to play, or they're going to have to pay per play, or subscribe (they could make some games part of the PS+ deal I guess). Essentially, no matter how good the streaming is, I think people are going to be kind of turned off when they realise they have to actually pay for something.

I think a lot of this evidence coming out has proven just how forward thinking Nintendo is. Just look at the Rayman Legends thing. Ubisoft delayed that title so they could put out 360 and PS3 versions because they know Durango and PS4 just aren't going to deliver so they need to get their profits from the current next gen leader and also the last gen consoles. Sony and Microsoft are going to be chasing the motion control gimmick (or weird things like audio chips) while Nintendo is already writing the future with a full powered screen on the controller itself.

You can pretty much see Iwata and Reggie going "check...and mate."

I'm going to summarize what I know with regards to Xbox 3.

VGLeaks info has been accurate due to what the info is coming from.

- Always online/internet connection required
- No used games
- No BC
- CPU has increased performance over normal Jaguar cores.
- ~3GB and 2 CPU cores are reserved for the OS, apps, Kinect, etc.
- Xbox has a crazy (IMO) amount of hardware dedicated to audio tasks (e.g. gaming and Siri capabilities)
- Kinect is a pack in
- Same day digital releases for all games

Issues that are big to me.Then again that just screams hack me hack me hack me

Can't wait until "next gen" is out so it can be bitch slapped like Nintendo.
