Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag will be a cross-gen game this year.  Also, Assassin's Creed IV will be a video game.  Prequel to Assassin's Creed III set around islands of the Caribbean with a focus on co-op and pirates.

these are pictures that tell you nothing

I now know why I am so pro-ms this upcoming Gen. Sony fans have lost their collective shit.
You realize Xbox fans are going to join them soon enough once the realities of this upcoming gen become apparent.

EA had some investor meeting thing and the interesting bits from the gaf summary are

Quote
-They have never been more prepaired or ready for a new console launch
-Giant leap for the industry, every step and function. "Between 8 & 10 times the power of current generation."
-No pricing on retail games set, but you may see a trend of "$69.99" at start and dropping down to $59.99 similar to the beginning of the current generation.
-Many more opportunities in "always on" connected gaming

-Not limited to current generation "1080p, 60 fps, camera IQ"
-Thrilled with the PS4 specs - the new Battlefield is stunning

The PS4 part isn't important, but if anyone remembers those old Battlefield 4 rumors that have so far been true, it said BF4 would aim for 1080p 60fps 64-player on PS4/Xbox3.  Another cross-gen game.

Unrelated to EA, Ubisoft mentioned that Watch_Dogs for PC/PS4/Xbox3 is considered the main version, or something like that, whatever it means.

Sfags have really gone crazy. Now they claim that MS will show better looking games than Sony because Rango PC devkits were more powerful than Orbis ones.At E3 MS will show bunch of CG trailers.

This will probably ruffle some feathers

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/393418/microsoft-to-reveal-ea-partnership-at-next-xbox-event/

Quote
CVG has learned that EA has secured a partnership with the Xbox firm, according to accounts from two sources who wished to remain anonymous. However, neither person was certain of what EA will show, nor what the terms of the exclusivity partnership will be.

Quote
Both industry sources had different speculation on what the EA partnership would be. One claimed it might be Battlefield 4, while the other suspected that Respawn Entertainment will make a surprise appearance. Neither person works for EA or Microsoft, and so could not confirm the terms of the deal.

? Season pass was $30 (I got it for $20)

I'll give stuff like BL2 a little bit of a pass (seewhutididthere) because the DLC content has been so substantial - all of the campaigns so far have been longer than most standalone retail game SP campaigns. Plus, the base game SP was so lengthy it doesn't feel like anything was left out or held back when you're playing.

Thing is Uncharted 3 doesn't need to be 43.5 gigs.  What takes up a chunk of that space are the 3D prerendered cutscenes.  Ideally you'd only need to download the base game with other languages and 3D cutscenes coming as separate downloads.

I used to go there to get up-to-the-minute news, but now it's just walls of worthless shit threads like "HOW DO YOU THINK MICROSOFT WILL KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK?" or "DO YOU THINK PEOPLE WILL GET MOTION SICKNESS FROM 1080p 60fps GAMES???"

Give it another week and it should calm down to the usual levels.

But yep it's unreadable atm and you can't call a shit thread out.

a Steam-like smartphone app for purchases would be nice. You can set notifications for wishlist games going on sale w/Steam too. That's pretty much all you need to never miss something you want for cheap

Usually the first next gen FIFA installment is mediocre. This gen's FIFA didn't really get good until 10 or 11 depending on who you ask. FIFA 07 was fantastic for the PS2 but utter shit for the 360 and PS3 so. Didn't stop me from wasting hundreds of hours on 08 or 09. FIFA isn't just a hobby, it's an addiction.

not just mediocre - first Fifa on X360 was utter 15fps garbage because, doh, they tried to render each blade of grass.

I suspect that the first next gen FIFA will be a "will this do?" effort with limited upgrades from X360/PS3 for the 2013-2014 season, however, they'll possilby attempt a next gen build for the World Cup 2014 game and then fill out that for Fifa 15 the next season.

Their approach would be awesome back in 2005 before most TVs and BD players had Internet features. These days you don't even need a separate box to do Hulu, Netflix, etc on your TV. Just hit a button on your remote and you're set. MS needs to wake up an look outside and realize it's now 2013. Maybe a trip down to Best Buy will knock some reality into them.

Um.

Speak for yourself, yes we do. 360's are the number one netflix machine. If they put bd on there, huge bonus. It plays games too.

Sounds win win, bro. Xbox 360's and ps3s are MOSTLY used for entertainment centers now. This is a smart move by ms. Look at your friends list. On both ps3 and 360, most people will be watching netflix or hulu. If they're over 30, they will barely be playing games.

If you think this is stupid you must not have many friends on your friendslist (understandable, as it is manabyte), or you're ignorant of the market changes that have occurred on consoles the past 4 years. It is adapt or die; same rule applies in life as it does in business.

I know I for one am mainly getting the next gen systems for an entertainment box, which is why I only want one. Games are secondary for me, and I've been playing games for 20 years. Eat my shit.

I knew the Vita was dead on arrival immediately. I was highly skeptical of the Wii U simply because it did not hold the buzz and implications that the original Wii did.

I don't remotely feel that sense so far about what little they've have announced for whatever this system is. But we'll see. Sales numbers will determine whether their approach is right or wrong. (Which is different from what pure gamers may necessarily want) As always I'll say that the hardcore types often get these types of projections wrong because they think the "best" game machine always wins.

Hopefully Atlus ports P5 to next gen systems and releases within the launch window.  :gladbron

Why exactly are media features an issue? other than my PS3 for blu-ray, I never use them, but I've never felt like they were holding my consoles back.  Always felt optional.

If that multitasking rumor pans out, it'll make sense.  I think current consoles restrict spontaneous game playing habits.  That's probably the most compelling part of Sony's vision with the PS4; making time to play nearly instant.  Like, Black Ops on 360 had the option to boot straight to multiplayer.  Stuff like that is smart.  Numbers-wise you're saving a minute or two but that's all it takes.  You gotta plan to play console games, if that makes sense.  I can imagine it as part of Microsoft's vision too, just with more of a general media focus.  Switch between playing a game and watching netflix in a second, then back to where you left off in the game.

That's also a problem with the Wii U.  Everything is slow.  The Mario game has these challenge levels that should be great for when you have a spare moment, but it takes a couple minutes just to get into them.  Getting into Miiverse or your friends list takes minutes.

I think Microsoft is focusing on media features because they know they low-balled the hardware. So they need to use media features to distract people from the games and instead try to sell the system as an all-in-one box that happens to be able to play some games that may not look as good as the competition.

Why are you so anti-media, Manabyte? The message has been on the wall for over a decade!

I'm not anti-media. I just don't need a game console to access media anymore. It's 2013. Everything is internet connected and if I want to watch Netflix, I just hit the "Netflix" button on my TV remote.

And I think you are playing psychic and don't actually know what you are talking about but then hey that is what forums are about. It's been obvious for years now that MS has been moving faster and quicker in this direction than the other console manufacturers. MS wants an all one in box because they want an all in one box to compete with apple.  Whether that is a good idea or not is a slightly separate debate but what I'll say right now is the question is open and the answer will be determined by actual sales data.

Sony was doing it too with the PS3. Despite what Himuro thinks, according to Netflix the PS3 is the top streaming device.

But with the PS4, while it'll have all of the same media features as the PS3 except audio CDs, they're focusing on GAMES. They had Cerny design the damn thing and got input from their first parties. Sony isn't focusing on being a set top box anymore, as they manufacture Smart TVs and Smart BD players. They are well aware that people don't need an all-in-one box anymore in the modern world of everything including your toaster having an Internet connection.

Then give me predictions then since based on this Sony is right and MS is wrong. I get that you disagree with their philosophy and that's fine. Leave it to a personal I don't want an all one in box and I prefer the Sony approach. I don't have an issue with this. But you are taking it a step further into one company is making a bad business decision and the other is making the correct business decision then which is far more predictive. Even though that should make you happy because the bad business decision will also validate what you want to see in a console. So how bad is MS going to do next gen in the US and the world relative to Sony so I have something to bookmark for the future and fact check to?

I think the next Xbox will fulfill the third console syndrome for MS.

Yeah, the whole "MS DOESN'T MAKE GAMES" thing is pretty ??? when it's obvious they're gearing up for the nextbox.

But it shouldn't be the focus of the box. It's like MS is screaming "look at all the shit we can do" and everyone else is like "so what, so can we"

Games only devices are getting steamrolled by multipurpose devices (tablets, smartphones, smart TVs, etc.). Not a surprise they are diversifying.

Sure.Next gen we will have $70+Season Pass DLC+map packs+microtransactions at every corner+offline/online pass+tax for the stupid

On the plus side I bet a lot more games follow the Uncharted and subscription MMO route and go free to play after ~9 months.

And downloading 40GB on PS3, it may finish downloading by the time Orbis ships.
