They won't. It's better to space them out a little even if the games are already ready for release.

It will be funny when watch dogs on ps4/durango outsells the wii u version 3:1 while being on systems with a smaller install base, that will be the nail in the coffin for ubi support.

http://fusible.com/2013/04/will-microsoft-call-its-next-generation-console-the-xbox-fusion-domain-names-point-to-yes/

Quote
If Microsoft has learned anything from its previous mistakes with launching a product without the matching domains — then it’s quite possible that the company’s next generation console will be called the “Xbox Fusion”.
Microsoft owns the name in a variety of different extensions and it has for years.
Speculation about the name being called “Xbox Fusion” isn’t anything new.  But what separates “Xbox Fusion” and only a few other names from the rest of the list, is that not only does Microsoft own the dot-com (WHOIS), it owns a slew of other domains like XboxFusion.info, XboxFusion.biz, XboxFusion.de, XboxFusion.co.uk – the list goes on and on.
Speculation of the next gen console’s name has gone wild, fueled lately by the recent leak on Reddit of what may be the logo.
Names being kicked around include the Xbox 720, Xbox Infinity, Xbox Infinite, Xbox Gold, Xbox 8, Xbox Durango, Xbox Next, and more.
Domain investor Andy Booth – who knows a thing or two about domains with names like samurai.com – dropped me an email out of the blue saying he believes Microsoft will go with “Xbox Fusion” based on the number of names the company has registered and that the “infinity” symbol is also interpreted as “fusion”.
In case you haven’t been keeping a score card of Microsoft’s matching domains, here’s a look:
Xbox720.com (WHOIS) – Microsoft does not own the domain.
XboxInfinity.com (WHOIS) – Microsoft does not own the domain.
Xbox8.com (WHOIS) -Microsoft does not own the domain.
XboxDurango.com (WHOIS) – Microsoft does not own the domain.
XboxInfinite.com (WHOIS) – Microsoft does not own the domain.
XboxFusion.com (WHOIS) – Microsoft owns the domain.
XboxNext.com (WHOIS) – Microsoft owns the domain.
XboxGold.com (WHOIS) – Microsoft owns the domain.
So will Microsoft go with a name it doesn’t currently own? Or with a name already in its portfolio?
We should know in late May.
For those of you who don’t remember, Microsoft got off to a somewhat embarrassing start with the initial release of the Xbox console back in 2001 by not even owning the trademark to Xbox.  Although it eventually acquired the mark, Microsoft, like many big companies and their worst kept secrets, has often failed to secure the domain name ahead of time before the product was announced or launched. Halo 4 and Kinect.com are just two examples.
Currently, XboxFusion.com redirects visitors to Xbox.com, while XboxNext and XboxGold redirect users to Bing.

PLAYSTATION WONDERFUL!

Another stupid rumor

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=553288
Quote
I run a small Xbox fansite in Italy and yesterday a source who already proved to have rieliable infos in the past contacted me with an interesting tip.

He talked with an high level manager of a big entertainment distributor in Italy, who told him that they are already laying down their marketing plans for holiday 2013 and they are counting only on PS4 to launch this year. It is unclear if this is only true for Italy/Europe or it's a global problem, but my source was told that Microsoft is having problems with Blu-ray licensing for movie playback, it seems due to some kind of very long timed exclusive Sony put in place for the console market when the brd standard was created.

I've got no idea how much realistic this brd licensing thing could be: I believe the standard is almost 10 years old now, and even if some sort of exclusive was in place, 10 years would be e very, very lengthy period for an exclusive. On the other side, if this was true would MS be willing to pospone a very important launch for such an issue? I don't know. And, frankly, I hope this rumor to be bullshit: I'm hoping for the console to come out this year. However, as I said, the guy who contacted me proved to be quite reliable and in-the-know in the past, so I thought it deserved to be discussed.

Shameless plug: this is our story about the rumor EDIT: link removed, looks like it's aginst the TOS
http://www.mondoxbox.com/news/38477/rumor-la-prossima-xbox-arriva-nel-2014-a-causa-di-problemi-con-la-licenza-blu-ray.html

Edit - just to clarify: the part about the company marketing expecting to have only PS4 this holiday looks like to be the more reliable information. The Blu-ray stuff could simply be their manager's educated guess, I don't know this for sure.

I blame Lager.

I saw a pre-order box with 'PS4... expecting late 2013' in a toy store yesterday.

PS4 has a high chance of launching this year in Europe. That's actually my biggest fear when it comes to anticipating negative Sony news.. if they will again purposely neglect us, Europe, as a priority or not? I'd get sooo mad.

Other rumored price was $500 (right?) + 2 year of live  ($120) = $620.  $300 + $360 ($15x24months) = $660.  I guess it depends on the terms and all, and if you're a gold subscriber, and other stuff.

Microsoft can advertise it as $300*.  If we pretend the PS4 will 'only' be $500 and Wii U doesn't drop from $300/$350, it might seem like a value.

man why are these console so expensive, back in 2006 one of the reason i bought a wii was because i could actualy afford one,it's been 7 years and they still haven't learned a single fucking thing
guess i'll buy a ps4 in 2020 tough by that point i might be dead already, but somehow the idea of not having to go trough FF15 (also not FFVS13) put my minds at ease

i think mine ran out last month or it's running out this month.   wanted to get another 360 just as a fighting game box, but XBL gold is preventing me from doing that.  so, they miss out on a system sale and all the goodies that come from an idiot impulse buyer like me.  PSN might function worse overall, but they've got the right idea making it free.   I've probably owned both systems for roughly the same amount of time, but my PSN content is probably double my XBL stuff.   There's a lot more to buy on PSN, but PS+ being a value service instead of a basic functionality service really gets me to spend too much dang money.

http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/2/4292676/microsoft-surface-next-gen-rumor-june

Quote
Microsoft has long been rumored to be working on a 7-inch version of its Surface tablet, but a new report suggests the company may be preparing to unveil it in June. DigiTimes claims that second-generation Surface devices, with 7- to 9-inch displays, will be announced at Microsoft's Build developer conference in late June. If the report is accurate, then it suggests Microsoft may be preparing more than one Surface device.

An Xbox Surface device emerged shortly before Microsoft's official Surface tablet announcement last year, and we understand the Xbox and Surface teams have been working closely on the company's 7-inch plans. Microsoft is expected to launch a 7-inch Surface-branded tablet, with the company recently changing its Windows 8 tablet specifications to support smaller screen sizes. Microsoft has confirmed it's working closely with OEMs to bring cheaper and smaller Windows tablets to market. A leaked 8-inch Acer tablet suggests these types of devices are imminent.

Microsoft's Build conference will focus on its Windows 8.1 upgrade and the improvements for 7- and 8-inch tablets, we understand. It also follows shortly after Intel's planned Haswell launch on June 3rd and the annual Computex event where OEMs typically announce devices. Intel's new Haswell chips are designed to improve battery life and graphics performance, and The Verge understands Microsoft will continue to update its Surface Pro with the latest Intel chipsets.

it's too expensive for me and i'm not a tech head so i don't care about how pretty they can make the graphics,i don't understand why somebody can't announce a console for dirty peasant at 150/200$ for once

i was hoping for the ouya to be that but apparently it sucks so...

of course it's not like i was expecting cutting edge ps4 and 720 to be cheap but that price really seems close to the "FIFTY HUNDRED NINTY NINE DOLLARS!" of ps3 launch fame

and i know the 3ds is cheap, but it's not a home console and it became cheap after it bombed like mad at 250$

Smartphones are eating up whatever disposable income people budget for expensive electronics.
I don't know about abroad, but in Germany the low-wage sector has massively expanded in the last decade. Wages have stagnated and retail isn't doing so hot because domestic demand is somehow, mysteriously, despite claims to the contrary by the media, waning.

These consoles will be launching to all time high unemployment rates in Europe too. Esp in the youth demographic which they target.

Sega unveils new Dreamcast game console

By CNN Interactive Producer Dave Ragals

May 21, 1998
Web posted at: 1:38 PM EDT (1338 GMT)

(CNN) -- Sega, which recently pulled its Saturn 32-bit game console off store shelves in North America, today announced details of its next generation console, which it vows will become the number one game platform, with more than 50 percent of the console game market in the near future.

The machine, called Dreamcast, will feature a 128-bit processor, compared to the the 64-bit Nintendo 64 and the 32-bit Sony PlayStation, the current market-leader. It'll be able to create more than 3 million polygons per second with 64 channels of sound.

It will also come with built-in network capabilities for multi-player gaming.

"Dreamcast will combine all the best features of console, PC and Internet gaming," Bernard Stolar, president and CEO of Sega of America, said today at a press conference.

In addition to improving performance, Dreamcast will include several new features -- like a removable memory card that doubles as the world's smallest portable game. When plugged into a Dreamcast controller, the Visual Memory System will let gamers secretly set up plays in sports titles or plan secret attacks in role-playing games, or it can be used as a stand-alone game machine about the size of a business card.

"We had two design goals in creating Dreamcast -- to create a seamless integration of high-performance components and to develop a flexible architecture that can take advantage of future technical developments and new entertainment concepts," said Stolar.

Dreamcast is the result of partnerships with Microsoft, which is providing a customized version of its Windows CE operating software, and several hardware makers. It will run on an adapted version of Hitachi's SH4 RISC chip, an NEC graphics engine and a Yamaha real-time 3D audio chip.

Dreamcast is scheduled to be released in Japan on November 20, and in North America in the fall of 1999.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/05/microsoft-next-xbox-will-work-even-when-your-internet-doesnt/

Quote
Should single-player games, Blu-ray playback, and live TV viewing be possible on a gaming console with no Internet connection? Most gamers would say "yes," but they have been worried that Microsoft feels differently; the next generation Xbox has been consistently rumored to require a permanent network connection.

It won't.

According to an internal Microsoft e-mail sent to all full-time employees working on the next Xbox, "Durango [the codename for the next Xbox] is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today's Internet." It continues, "There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game."

How far this offline support will extend still isn't clear. It could take the form of a fully offline mode akin to that on the Xbox 360 (insert optical disc, install game, play, all without an Internet connection) or it could be more like Steam (install and activate online but enable subsequent offline play once this has been done).

While one could argue that "installing a game" is one of the "scenarios" that gamers "expect to work" when offline, a more Steam-like approach would be consistent with rumors that the next Xbox will use its Internet connection to block installation of secondhand games.

Still, though the next Xbox won't make everybody happy, it looks like fears that the console will be useless when your broadband goes down have been overblown.

Guess that settles that.

People have more disposible income now based on how much is spent on yearly smart phone updates, Kindle, tablets, etc. The question is moreso whether those people are interested in a gaming system. They already have devices and services that do everything, Comcast Triple Play etc.

Gaming is dominated by young men with money to waste, and I'd imagine many will jump on board the next gen; especially as their friends start playing next gen CoD more than the 360 version. To me personally $500 is money I could think of better things to spend on, like upgrading my PC. But I know plenty of guys who started saving for the next Xbox last year; from guys with good jobs in finance to cashiers to unemployed students. Ironically they all now plan in getting a PS4 instead haha, but perhaps MS' clarification on "always online" will bring them back.

Dont even know if I will jump in at launch. I have loads of games left to play on steam, lots of stuff I havent even purchased yet or that is still not out (grim dawn,  shadowrun, southpark) that I can play on my laptop... I play like 7/10 hours a week max so im good to go for ages.

The idea of spending 400/500 on a console and then 60 on a game, i dont know if thats me anymore. Maybe a year or two into the gen.

Dont even know if I will jump in at launch. I have loads of games left to play on steam, lots of stuff I havent even purchased yet or that is still not out (grim dawn,  shadowrun, southpark) that I can play on my laptop... I play like 7/10 hours a week max so im good to go for ages.

yeah, this is the least hype i've been for a new gen.   I kinda stopped getting hype for launch electronics/software at all.

It's gonna flow when people fill their entire free time with hating or loving a console at every step. In this case before its even been detailed and shown.

whenever I've asked, the justification is that they want to see the console they own (or plan to own) win so it can get exclusives and more games...which doesn't really apply that well in 2013.

If you have a job you have money, if you havent got a job you havent got money. So the disposable income of people with jobs is the same.

But those smart phones and tablets are replacing dumb phones, iPods, dedicated portable gaming devices, cameras and PC updates. More money has not magically been created

This is the first bit of news that has made me wish I wasn't banned at GAF... I would be rubbing this in so many of their dumb fucking interweb virtual faces. I can't accurately convey how tired of reading the melodramatics of functionally distinguished mentally-challenged aspies and wind-up merchants I have become, and I'm now not able to revel in some of the first bits of news that clearly shatters the illusion that they have any meaningful insider knowledge and in fact shows them to be a piss-poor shower of dim witted, self important, over-reactionary cunts.

I remember the day Xbox came out. Mups and I have a friend called Ruben and he got one. I was going from math class when he saw me, pointed and said,"YOU WERE WRONG, HIMURO. YOU WERE WRONG." "About what? The Xbox?" "EVERYTHING."

But a lot of these people are replacing smart phones with smart phones (with little actual difference between them), one tablet for another, etc; lots of disposable income is being thrown around on tech "upgrades" yearly. If the Durango is truly a well done all-in-one box, maybe it'll transcend just being a system young men and parents purchase.
