Your general doomsaying is entirely reasonable and convincingly argued. but a huge amount of posts here have been taking tiny slivers of probably inaccurate info from bad sources and extrapolating disaster from it. Given that seemingly no-one intends to buy Day One anyway, it's pretty ridiculous. Just wait and see.

The 360 reputation in European was a bit up and down and was going against a traditionally strong Sony. Even if Sony knock it out of the park with the PS4 i'd expect MS to have a better showing - i also expect the price to be lower than many people are predicting and i think we'll see some new ways of getting the machines into peoples hands.

That seems more important than who sold more units total since PS3 is probably the most popular Blu-ray player

I still say that's a weird call.  In the UK, sure, but the rest of Europe actually cooled down towards the 360 more and more as the generation progressed.  I can't imagine they're going to be hopping to get the new one unless Sony somehow bungles worse than they did with the PS3.

I'm sticking with it - i expect MS to be more aggressive in getting the hardware to people at prices they can afford than Sony.

True, but they have the issue of all of the extra content being aimed at a US audience, Europe and other territories are always an afterthought. Sony is generally better in that regard which I think helps them even if they have a higher price

I got a 360 because it plays multiplatform games like Bayonetta better. And it has a few exclusive games I liked - Ninja Gaiden II, Ace Combat 6, Operation Darkness, Cave shoot em ups, etc. I don't see the next Xbox having any of those advantages, so it's not as appealing to me as the PS4 atm.

i use my ps3 for that nowadays since the xbox can only do 480p, but back in the day XBMC was fucking powerful!  Having all those games and emulators on the HDD is awesome.  There's just no other way I'd play N.U.D.E., Dino Crisis 3, and Brute Force except totally free.

and all the design styles for homebrew software makes me think there's an early-mid 2000s geek aesthetic that the hipsters of the future will co-opt.
