Will the third-party ports last? Maybe, maybe not. The Wii couldn't handle PS360 games to the point where it was more economical to make completely new games (Umbrella Chronicles, Dead Rising, TatsuCap, etc.)

This is the major one for me (and the problem with Nintendo in general): If they don't have the multi-plats, there is no reason for me to buy their console.

Outside of 2-3 IP's they own (and this applies to MS and Sony on their consoles as well) I could not give a shit about exclusives/first-party. And this is something that eludes a lot of Nintards. "How can you hate Mario!?" I don't hate Mario, I just don't give a shit. Third party titles appeal to me.

Having Rocket League on the system is all well and good (but the performance seems lacking compared to the PC version apparently), but having paid-for online ($20 for sub-par to X-box Live and PSN) is what kills the value for me. I'm sure if you're into single-player stuff--which I am--the system will be fine with the portable/console hybrid focus. BUT there is a lot of Madden/et. al. folks that Nintendo would be missing if they don't get EA and ... well, it's just EA at this point besides Sony with Baseball on-board.

Basically, what I'm saying is: Show me the money third parties. If they don't flop this year with non-Beth/Atlus stuff, and continue to pump out titles, I may eventually get a Nintendo console, and I haven't had one (outside of the handhelds) since the Gamecube.

For the most part, the PC and systems by Microsoft and Sony more or less have equivalent libraries (with gaps for exclusives, of course.) Nintendo systems on the other hand are mostly exclusive by nature of strong first-party software.

Simplified, of the four current-gen options, there's a strong chance that the system you own shares the majority of its library with two out of the three other platforms. In that scenario, why wouldn't you get the system with more exclusives (assuming they're exclusives you'd want?)

The message from the Wii through to the Switch is that Nintendo does not intend their systems to be the primary platform for core gamers. And honestly everyone seems fine with that. It's only really a problem if you're dead-set on only own one current-gen system. And of the people on this forum, how many of those are there? Even I'm getting a PS4 soon.

As someone who is traditionally a Nintendo system owner first, I'm the target demo most excited by strong third party support. But if you're not a Ninthing and already have a PS4, is there a point to the Switch having third-party parity with it? It'd run games you could get on your PS4 worse.

Of course, it's easier to start with a base game and spec it up than it is to do the opposite, but who's to say the Switch won't become the "base" version with the PS4/XO a spec target above that, and the Pro/One X another notch above that?

The PS4/XB1 and their respective upgrades all have extremely similar hardware though. The Switch is completely different. And the PS4/XB1 <> PS4P/XB1X gap is absolutely nothing compared to what it is with the Switch. I mean, just look at Doom.

a lot of people point to Bruce, especially due to the Robin's, as the goofy sliding time scale aspect of DC, but really it's gotta be Alfred since he had to be old enough to take care of Bruce after his parents were killed as a kid...and then there's the times they have Alfred as a loyal butler to the Wayne's for years prior...and on the other end of the spectrum you have the version where Alfred is some kind of UK fuckup (or on the run from MI6) of some sort who thanks to his family connections got the Wayne job as a last chance right before they were killed and he takes on Bruce out of also being lost

and then there's Gotham's version where by the time Bruce is old enough to be Batman instead of The Shadow as a kid, Alfred's gonna be like 85 and Gordon's going to be in his 70s probably, Penguin not far behind...though it does better when it's just set in a version of Gotham City and the Batman world, especially with the totally fucked up life for Gordon and the show's pretty great casting and hammy acting, versus trying to actually be a Batman prequel...i might even prefer it at this point to the idea that became Smallville because of how stupid nonsense it is, and actually kinda regret that it tried to be a prequel for that first season and setup characters like Renee and Crispus and Harvey Dent and so on, though they totally don't care about it at this point since they have done things like age Poison Ivy 15+ years between seasons

Maybe you mean it’s not exciting in that it’s exactly the type of games you expect Nintendo to release. Which i guess is true, but those were also the type of games people bought the Wii U for (personally I only bought it for Bayo 2).

I’m not too surprised at the 3DS numbers. I grabbed a 2DS with Mario Kart 7 preinstalled for like $80. And all of the selects were only $20 for the entire holiday season. You could give a kid in the right age range a pretty fucking stellar Christmas for $120 or so.

I’m more surprised with the switch. I never saw more than 1 or 2 on the shelf anywhere after thanksgiving, I had figured that this was due to Nintendo not stocking a damn thing syndrome. Apparently they were just flying off the shelves. I probably should have realized when like three of my friends either gave them to their kids or got one for Xmas.

I wouldn’t mind if Nintendo kept pumping or 3DS software, but my wish would be that they dual release everything on Switch. I’m still playing my 3DS, especially to play mario party and New Leaf with my kid, but I struggle to get excited to play like, Metroid returns on the original 3DS, that thing is just hand torture for me.
