You start out with an alternative history WW2 game.

You turn that into a WW2 game without any of the iconic fights and release a trailer that puts a focus on the cosmetics and how 'inclusive' it is.
And you have Trevor Noah present the thing.

It doesn't sell

 :pika

One could argue that making such an alternative history is blackwashing (or femalewashing or whatever bs they included in the game) history itself, cultutal appropriation of a historic event, the biggest conflict ever.

You could say that is hugely disrespectful to the memory of those involved.

Anyhoo Battlefield was best around 1-2 and idk why they want to stray from that gritty real world formula (anf afaik bf was always the arcadey game already compared to Arma) anf go down this herp game bs.

Bigger news is that BF5:

BritneyFlop.gif 'd.

"Don't like our SJW agenda? Don't buy it!"

Indeed, Patrick Soderlund. Indeed. Good thing you got that golden parachute though!

Battlefield should never be about whats between your legs, your skin colour or where u want to stick your wiener in.

Just anonymous cannon fodder in an endless conflict.

Checked in on Media Create, the only non-Switch game in the top 10 is the PS4 rerelease of Yakuza 5. :doge

Also this was kinda obvious a few years ago but Yokai Watch has completely collapsed. Another corpse of a "Pokemon killer" on the pile.

Japanese sales overall are tepid though. We'll see how much the Switch killer lineup and the handheld revision will change that.

Who knows, depending on how low the price for the Switch Mini will go I can see it going beyond 100 million. It's gonna beat 50 million by years end, after less than three years worth of sales.

Yeah I was thinking today it's sort of a tossup whether it'll hit 100 mil, but I see it capturing more of the handheld audience in the future, and there's no handheld "competition" this time.

Oh so you are in idiot, got it.

You think a company sells a device and doesn’t care about how many they sell, must be why they spend millions marketing the thing.

It’s MS spinning their position in the market, that being getting trampled in hardware sales.  Beyond that it’s simply the English language, those words don’t mean or imply they don’t care about console sales (an idiotic concept.). They imply there is more to the business than console sales, which is a “no shit” comment.

PS4 being as popular as the PS2 is just... weird to think about for me. I had so accepted that (traditional) console sales like that were pretty much over and that you'd need a standout feature like the Wii Remote to hit those sales again. Glad I was wrong and the industry seems healthy. :)

I actually never got that for purely anecdotal reasons. All the kids here had ipads, yeah. but everyone was playing CoD with their buds on Playstations and shit so I never saw how "kids don't give a fuck about consoles" was true in any sense when I also knew enough peeps in the US who casually owned a console for one or two games on top of that.

Gaming is basically globally accepted in our gen, weird to think people thought such a major shift was going to happen like that when the Wii didn't so much expand an audience as appeal to one who usually wouldn't buy a console, while the PS3 and 360 both reached like 80 million appealing to mostly tried and true videogame type console shit.

Xbox360 sold about 85 million worldwide total, though I can't find any concrete US numbers later than 2011 [when it was about 25 million sold], while the Wii sold just under 50 million in the US. I could see it being really close between those two for US numbers, since that market was far and away the 360's strongest.

I realize this is anecdotal, but I know several people who purchased multiple 360s because they got sick of sending it in, which makes me believe that 360's install base was almost certainly lower than 85 Million. Reminder that only the 5th revision (Jasper) finally solved the RRoD problem for good, and that was 3 years in, and that all previous versions had a failure rate of nearly 100% as time went on.

Is there anyone here who bought only one single 360?

Never had a 360 die;  and not for lack of use.

But yeah RROD contributed;  the system still managed a great attach ration though so it overcame that to some extent.

However that whole nightmare definitely cost them their profitability and probably directly led to the shitty XBox One;  not like people buying extra systems really helped MS's bottom line the thing was a loss leader most of the gen.

My 60gb PS3 still runs today though it's so goddamn loud it's almost unusable.  :lol

I had two 360s. OG model kept dying (which I think it ultimately was revealed to be a known continuous thing by MS, they could only tempy fix some of them?) and then a slim which has lived on. The OG model was given to my now former brother in law, and yeah it eventually started having problems for him. :doge

Now that I have more money and companies have gotten smart about how they do the refreshes, I also just tend to buy two consoles.

I ended up buying a pro and x1x. If they figure out a better upgrade to switch than just “new battery” I’ll probably end up getting one of those too..

Usually you can end up doing this for pretty cheap nowadays too if you wait for some trade in deal.

I think I traded in my original Bone and PS4 for pro versions for like a total of $250.

Xbox/360 is what got me into console gaming (or at least back into, mostly PC games after NES/SNES gen.)   Halo CE really is what started, then Rainbow Six games.    Wasn't a fan of most console games until FPS / modern TPS started being the norm so it makes sense.

But man Xbox One was such a fucking failure lol.

Wii support completely died out of nowhere after the 4th year in a 8 year generation for everyone else. Everyone thought that was because Nintendo were prepping that huge HD lineup :juicy

Yeah, what was Nintendo thinking when they suddenly stopped making Wii games? Microsoft was just as bad, they did pretty much drop non-Kinect game support for 360 after they launched Kinect. And then, hilariously they launched Xbone bundled with Kinect 2 and didn't have a single Kinect game for the new system.
WTF.

Kinect sold millions and millions of units and despite massive sales the game sales were barely there.    You could get Kinect games like 2 for $50 right near launch, but most of the games only sold a couple hundred k.

It had to have been obvious to MS that Kinect was not popular as a gaming device;  it was obvious to anyone watching NPD numbers.   It was popular for voice control though, and I honestly thought they'd "get that" and just include a mic array built into the Xbox One chasis, but those dumbasses went all in on Kinect... not sure how the fuck that happened.

Yep, if they had built in a mic they could have narrowed the price gap with PS4 considerably. Instead they bundled it with the new and more expensive Kinect 2 - for which they never made any software. Hahaha.
