Sony's first party games literally follow the same sales trajectory as any other AAA game. Hugely front-loaded and then only maintain a tail because they quickly join the bargain bin, followed by new versions bundled with the DLC. After the first 3 months, literally nobody is paying full price for Sony first party games.

Nintendo, on the other hand, can sell Mario Kart 8 at full price for 6 years and counting.

There's no comparing pedigree. Sony ain't even welcome in the competition.

Don't know about you guys, but here a Nintendo title at launch can usually be picked up for AU$64 and the regular price at the big retailers will be $69 and sometimes $79 for Smash and Zelda.

Digital will always cost $80+ except for the occasional sale or if you buy the Nintendo online voucher things.

Sony as an international business entity might not care a whole lot about Japan. Sony as a Japanese zaibatsu definitely is hurting about this. There is a strange affliction in the Japanese business mind that sees conquest at home as being infinitely superior to any other market, despite its size. It’s a matter of personal pride.

The general consensus is that MS is playing the long game with gamepass/Xcloud, not trying to sell Xboxes.

If they don't move Xbox's and GPU supply remains as is it's going to be a very long game.
In fact, GamePass for PC is hardly advertised at all. It's mostly Xbox promotions.

Last I checked GamePass was at 18 million subscriptions and by pulling Xbox One X and other older models from shelves they're reliant on Series S/X.
To me the number of GamePass subscriptions at the moment seems tied to the number of boxes they can sell.
