What about their Cloud Division?

Also their Ad Tech division is gonna do gangbusters next fiscal year after nabbing Netflix.

The rumors are true, Netflix is joining Xbox.
You can now watch your favorite shows like The Witcher, Breaking Bad, Castlevania, Resident Evil and my personal favorite The Umbrella Academy, Day 1 on Xbox GamePass.
Creating the ultimate subscription service combining the biggest selection of movies and TV shows with the best selection of video games for console and PC on the planet.

To celebrate this, Xbox GamePass will be $1 for the coming 6 months for both new and existing subscribers.
Gamers will also have access to the X-Cloud streaming service directly from Office 365 giving hard workers the break they deserve.

This year will be the biggest year of Xbox.

PS4 was sort of like a ballsy move. A platform just for games when everyone else was chasing the casuals and TV services. I don't think Sony got enough credit for pulling the console industry back on track.

I think they were relieved the Wii U launched earlier and failed cause outside VR/AR (even lumping EyeToy into this) their heart just isn't into gimmicks, particularly the ones lifted from Nintendo.

After the blue ocean turned red and the casuals fled to smartphones, it only made sense to focus on your most ardent and profitable consumer market (gamers). Even Nintendo kinda realized this because Wii U and Switch adopted industry-standard controller layouts and they've turned back to focusing mostly on their own fans instead of "growing gaming" or whatever their mantra was 2004-2013 or so.

Looking at the Switch, 3DS, Kinect and other succesful 'casual' devices and games (Fortnite and Minecraft) I think that Nintendo's Wii U failure significantly accelerated the move to mobile gaming.
Wii U not being called Wii U and having a stronger line-up for both casuals and gamers alike would've made more people upgrade to the new system.

In the latest in a seemingly endless line of major industry acquisitions, Chinese conglomerate Tencent and Japan’s Sony Interactive Entertainment have collectively bought just over 30% of controlling stock from stellar studio FromSoftware — as announced by FromSoft parent Kadokawa Group.

Tencent subsidiary Sixjoy Hong Kong will take ownership of 16.25% of the purchased shares, while SIE will sire the remaining 14.69%. It is important to note that Kadokawa Group remains the majority shareholder in FromSoftware, owning a huge 69.66% of the Dark Souls studios stock. This “third-party allotment” of shares has been allowed in order to bolster FromSoft’s financial resources, as well as facilitate its growth in overseas territories. The deal is expected to close September 7, 2022.

Famitsu has published its estimated physical game software and hardware sales data for Japan for the week of September 12, 2022 to September 18, 2022.

This franchise is gonna have to hit Sonic 06 levels of rock bottom before people wake up.
The problem is that the core gameplay of Pokemon remains functional, and even excellent, in spite of the technical issues.

Sonic never adapted to 3D gaming and the core gameplay in the modern era has never been good which allowed for Sonic 06 levels of trash to exist.

I thought Sony had stopped selling PS4's but they just dropped a new PS4 500GB + COD: MWII bundle for ~349 Euro,
which is a lousy deal considering 1TB models bundled with games were about ~299 Euro and sometimes even cheaper pre-COVID and you can buy an Xbox Series S right now for < 250 Euro.

[close]

Still with the combination of games dropping on Steam, PS4, Switch and even PS4-only ports like Resident Evil 4: Remake there might be some life in the old dog left.

"What idiot pays for Switch Online or the Expansion Pass?"

https://www.tweaktown.com/news/88898/nintendo-switch-online-made-nearly-1-billion-in-2021/index.html

Quote
According to the data, Nintendo Switch Online made $932 million in 2021 and made up 10-20% of the total multi-game subscription market on consoles. That's up against Xbox Game Pass, which made 30-40% at $2.9 billion revenues, and PlayStation, who made up 40-50% of that market.

Based on public data made available by Nintendo and compiled by TweakTown, the Switch Online service made up 31% of Nintendo's total digital revenues ($3.054 billion) and just 8% of the company's overall dedicated video games earnings ($14.350 billion).

Was always gonna be third place, but a billy in revenue and more subs than Apple TV+... :miyamoto

Is it? Xbox still seems to be selling way better than the doom and gloom would lead you to believe. The way people talk about this shit you'd think it'd sell a pittance of the PS5 sales. Not like 2/3 of the PS5.

Not really because the US is Xbox strongest market.

In Europe and Japan the PS5 is way ahead so the closer the gap in the US the better for Xbox.
It started out the year very strong too. Especially the Xbox Series S.

Don't forget the pricing as well, Xbox Series S sells for $200 - $250 and Series X was $399 at some point.
PlayStation 5 went up in price to $549 and most units sold were probably $649 or $749 bundles.

We know that the Xbox Series S sells better than the Xbox Series X. So on a 50/50 split Xbox Series X sold 365k at best. However it is more likely that the split is 60/40 or even 70/30 in favor of the Series S.
The current market position for the Xbox seems to be 2nd console for Switch owners or a cheap option to play F2P games like Fortnite, Sea of Thieves and Minecraft.
Xbox is really doing a poor job with marketing and positioning and they cancel things the fans really like (like their backwards compatibility progam).

They seem to be completely lost as to what audience to target. The Minecraft kids and TikTokers ain't gonna buy Starfield.

If I buy into this generation, it's most likely going to be a Series S. Price is way too steep for the PS5/SX and there's pretty much nothing worth paying that entry fee for anyway.

My decision may be affected by the timing/specs of the Switch 2 but, at this point, I am not interested in what Sony/MS are selling.

That's the argument that MS doesn't put forward enough, you can play Cyberpunk 2077, HALO Infinite, Elden Ring and more on a ~$250 machine.

To be fair, you can play all of those games on the previous generation of consoles too, so why would anyone shell out AU$450+ to play them on a new machine?

This generation sucks balls and is almost completely worthless at this point.
