I saw NPD came out and the numbers are  :o

Dragon's Dogma was a nuclear bomb, max payne did seem to do well, and hardware are low across the board with Vita about 56k at most.

The only winner seemed to be Diablo 3 since it was number one on the list.

rough numbers stolen from GAF

Quote
360: 160K
PS3: 124K
3DS: 113.5K
Wii: 71K
PSV: >50K, <56.8K

It's like 1983 all over again  :o

The home console market is pretty much saturated at this point, and no one cares about handhelds anymore.

People are just fatigued on this generation of consoles. Next gen is what's needed to infuse excitement into console purchases again. Price drops and new bundles probably won't cut it anymore.

Vita doing poorly is expected. I'm just glad Sony was crazy/blind enough to pump so much power into a portable console, one last time. It was the best eulogy to portable console gaming that one could give.

Max Payne 3 selling under expectations is not surprising if you look at the first two. People just expected more because of dat Rockstar touch, but the series it of itself was never that big to begin with. (But at least it did better than Alan Wake  :lol Remedy)

Dragon's Dogma doing less than 100K is the greatest tragedy of this month's NPD, imo. It's a great game, and did so well in Japan that I was ever so hopeful... And in comparison to how well ORC did, it's only going to reinforce the message to Capcom that no one wants to give them: please continue to rehash good-selling franchises instead of attempting to ever make new ones.

At this point in previous generations, most consoles are $99-149.  I believe Microsoft and Sony have effectively tapped the $200 and up wells dry.  Considering how neither the 720 and PS4 are coming out until late 2013, they might want to release a $149-199 SKU for this holiday to see if they can try to jumpstart it.

They should have dropped prices on these consoles a long time ago. And Kinect tricked ms into thinking they had the new wii. That fad is over.

Look at the console numbers in North America from the last generation compared to this generation so far:

PS2 - 55 million
Gamecube - 13 million
Xbox - 15 million
Total - 83 million

PS3 - 23 million
Xbox - 37 million
Wii - 43 million
Total - 103 million

There's just nobody left to sell to at this point, especially at the price that the PS3 and Xbox360 are still selling at.

yeah, with the talk of price drops, it's worth noting that the cheapest 360 is still $200.  If families are getting it for Kinect, that's bumped to $300, and if you want the hard drive to enable media functions, that's an additional hundred at $400.  The complete "Xbox 360 Experience" Microsoft sells is at $400.

PS3 is just as much, only move is an utter failure and no one's gonna want the bundle with it. [edit: $350 with move and camera]

Does NPD even track the different PS3 and 360 SKUs?

Dragon's Bomba did 92k.

Poor Fortus :'(

Heh. I don't own Capcom stock and I'll easily clock several hundred hours total in this game (first playthrough took 114 hours according to the game at the end). Only downside for me is that we might not get a more polished sequel because of the sales. OTOH after seeing how Bioware "evolved" Dragon Age with DA2 maybe a sequel isn't something to be missed anyways.

It's on track for 500k in Japan, though. Still way short of that 2 million mark they were aiming for.

It locked up their entire internal staff for like 4 years, which forced them to outsource every other game to western developers.

EA actually did support Wii with some lower caliber stuff like Boomblox.  Some of their sports stuff was a decent effort (at first), too.  It was just that EA's business is all about selling big and they didn't know how to reach critical mass with their wii products until ... EA sports fitness?  It just wasn't a match for their current business model.  I would argue Activision did mostly the same strategy and it ... kinda did work out better for them.  Then again they put Guitar Hero on the system during Wii's intial craze and consistently released their bigger multiplats on a somewhat consistent basis.

speaking of Game of Thrones, could Oscar confirm if Atlus is taking a bath on this or not?  At least so far.  Relatively speaking, as vaguely as possible of course.  I'm sure its kicking Risen 2's ass, but if its anywhere near The Witcher 2's 360 release then they got reason to celebrate.

and yes, Max Payne 3, DD, and every other May release really should have been reconsidered.

So I typed in a sales related question on the Google, and one of the first results I got a link to vgchartz. Noticed that it was plastered with ads, and it made me curious about something, and wouldn't you know it:

http://www.alexa.com/search?q=vgchartz.com&r=home_home&p=bigtop

Seems that distinguished black fellow ioi's been doing pretty well for himself after he got banned from gaf. And for a website that literally made up numbers, he seems to be doing exceptionally well (about as many registered users on his forums as are on gaf).

Btw I have no idea how vgchartz continues to exist. I used to have an NPD subscription and I'd look at both numbers just for laughs. Vgchartz was off by so much that it was absurd -- they'd say a title had sold 50k when it had actually done 3,500.
