Yeah himuro.

You should download it just to experience where gaming is going.

You want to upgrade your engine? Please wait 5 min. I also have a feeling these timers will go up and up the further you get.

Have you ever played Eve Online? I tried it out and you get these kind of timers that can be days (yes DAYS) AND on top of that you have a monthly fee.

I feel like this kind of gameplay is really cynical and praying on the weak.

Yeah I disagree.

There is of course a money thing going on here but what you are really seeing is the divide between how people play games. Traditional gamers sit down for hours and play the same game for extended time. And there is a new generation that simply doesn't do that anymore. Gaming is something they do in burst or between things. So playing on their phone or ipad is something they bounce around with. And for them the ability to play it free is worth the bursting style gameplay that these timers introduce. I totally understand why traditional hardcore gamers don't like it. But its not going anywhere for certain section of the market especially ipad and iphone. The system is nothing new. Iphone and ipad games have been doing this for a long time now. What seems to have happened is here is a game with traditional hardcore appeal doing it.

a forum is a colossal waste of time for all involved.
Correct. :lol

Just out of curiosity, care to show any examples in the CliffyB thread?  Looks like volpone got nailed in there for voicing an anti-GAF view but I could have missed something.
I dunno, haven't looked at the thread. I don't feel like wading through that shit.

Badly behaving, power tripping hypocrite mods seem to gather wherever RPGs are discussed, or they seem to be primarily fans of RPGs. Just an observation.

Maybe western RPGs (though that guy Minsc is cool and iirc he is named after a western RPG character), but for Japanese RPGs I haven't noticed. We have Aeana and that's about it... and she's no where near what you'd classify as a power tripping hypocrite.

Stoney, as I said in a previous post, its ok to play this game casual.

But to play this game for reals hardcore its a shit game.

I would much rather have two versions, one 9.99 with everything fucking normal as a normal game. And one freemium.

It is a beautiful game but those timers are insane.

Then again if you play casually I don't think its a huge deal. I did a few races in bed, upgrades where done while browsing bore, went to sleep.

um. the rpg loving mod crowd are pretty much gone. those were mostly dragona and scarlet. you have kev, but he's not TOO much of an rpg guy unless you're talking about final fantasy. duck USED to be a big rpg guy but he's kinda down and out with games lately if my personal convos with him are any indication. kagari doesn't give a shit about rpgs, she only cares about final fagasy. this leaves minsc, who's all about quality wrpgs and strategy rpgs, and Aeana, who's about rpgs in general.

Neither minsc nor aeana are power tripping hypocrites.

I would as well but then how you monetize the freeium version becomes more difficult. The economy of the ios market has never been very balanced or well thought out. It's a free for all which drives down the price for everything. So while as a gamer I agree. I also understand the especially difficult position all these guys are in.

I absolutely hate the idea of having to spend real money on every little thing in a game after I purchase it [or even get it for free]. I want to spend a one-time amount and then have access to everything the game has to offer.

And I think plenty of hardcore gamers are like that if not all. The problem is that model works far less well on mobile platforms. But even something as popular as League of Legends doesn't offer everything for one cheap price even though it doesn't have an energy system like most mobile titles do.

I think that is different because in things like Dota or Lol you have access to the full game, your are just paying for fluff.

I understand it's hard on mobile, but there are plenty of games that offer two versions.

The reality is when I tell somebody I know who isn't a gamer that they should try out some mobile title if its costs anything there is no way they will actually download it. If its free they may download it. That is the reality you are working with on that platform.

Ho ho ho, that's the new "constrained shipments" excuse. I mean, sure, I'll believe second hand sellers returning their systems, but nearly 40k of them? That's a phenomenon.

“Activision didn’t expect much from Wii U sales of Black Ops 2, but they sure didn’t expect it to be that abysmal. Activision gave Wii U owners the best version of Blops 2 with Off TV features, and Nintendo fans didn’t support it. It’s easy for Nintendo fans to trash publishers for not giving them ports, but publishers have wisened up. They realize Nintendo fans are all talk. Nintendo fans are vocal with their mouths, but when it’s time to open their wallets, they’ll spend that $60 on New Super Mario Bros instead.”

Well if Skylanders under-performed then I imagine BLOPs would do a lot worse. Wii U doesn't have any audience established yet except diehard Nintendo fans and fools who buy every console. Nintendo fans don't want any bro games. They just want the bro games to sell so the third parties will give them titles that actually interest them.

Right now a variety of companies are employing psychologists to create traps in their games.  They are deliberately taking advantage of the weaknesses of the human mind to exploit people for more money than they can reasonably afford in many cases.  Psychologically speaking, stuff like Real Racing 3 is about half a stone's throw away from gambling.  If the industry thinks they're going to be able to make an industry of any serious size based on this stuff, I hope they're ready for government regulation, cuz it's going to come swift and hard sooner or later.  Japan's already gotten a taste of the blood in the water on this one.  I imagine others aren't far behind. :)

Quite a few jobs out there right now along these lines - applied for one at a non-game retail site - got rejected because I missed that I needed a Doctorate in Statistical Maths. Oops

As the 2012 fiscal year comes to a close at the end of this month, Sony will be recording the share sale as operating income in the fourth quarter, helping to boost the bottom line with the $438 million gain. Two weeks prior it sold about 10k.  So the price drop plus boob ninjas resulted in 40k for the week?  We'll have to see where it is in a few weeks.  Some pretty high profile software is rolling out alongside this price drop.

Some people on gaf claim he was misunderstood(mistranslated?),"he said 4 times the sales of the previous two weeks combined".Are they just making stuff up or not?
