Witness this rant from SA in all it's glory:

Quote
My phone nearly blew up there with all the texts and calls, fucking unbelievable. "The best team ever" have officially been resigned to a footnote in history tonight. I'm convinced they're past their peak now and are finished and it's fucking glorious. Cheating cunts never prosper in the end. Fuck UEFA, Fuck the Qatar Foundation, Fuck Mes Que un Club, Fuck blood doping and "hormone injections", Fuck white hankerchiefs, Fuck "Pep" and his shit skinny ties, Fuck that Argie bottling midget cunt, Fuck playing 9 central midfielders, fuck 85% posession, fuck the "Camp Nou", fuck getting players yellow cards, Fuck crowding the ref, Fuck diving and claiming to be pure...You can stick Unicef and those pair of cunts Puyol and Pique right up your arse too, absolute fucking dogshit.

SAFC moments aside, I don't think I've been so happy after a football match.

i like geordies tho i want to be a geordie

my home town is "up north" but we are on the west side of the country , but accent wise and "life" wise we are pretty much Geordies in a different location. I can immitate a Geordie accent easy because it's near as damn it the same as my own accent (which i have hidden since uni days because no one had a fecking clue what i was talking about). I spent many happy times in Newcastle. My previous fiancee studied there so i spent a ton of time there.

Anyways - the big thing Newcastle have which is amazing - you go through Newcastle city center , down through Monument and The Big Market on match day and EVERYONE is wearing black and white. It's insanity. Not just "one or two people" - everyone. Young and old. It's not like in other parts of the country where you'll see Man Utd or Liverpool shirts. No. You are in Newcastle? You support Newcastle. The ground is in the damned heart of the city - it's everything to do with the city.

I studied in Liverpool and i was horrified at the number of SCOUSE kids who were MAN UTD fans. That's just WRONG. That will never EVER happen in Newcastle. You are born in Newcastle, you support Newcastle. There is no other option. It's a level of local support that it unsurpassed by any of the 91 other pro teams in England.

lots of scoursers ignore wigan and bolton and everton and support liverpool or united. it's embarrasing.

but ya i want to visit newcastle or live there some day. it seems awesome :)

thats why pep hasn't signed a new contracdt yet, he wasn't sure how the barca fans would react to him potentially losing everything.

I hope Cavani comes to the premiere league next year. He was my favorite player to watch play in the CL this year next to HULK in the europa league

Highly suggest this youtube channel for history of the beautiful game and its most prolific players:

Full on documentaries, they cover from Zidane to Pele, from Trapatoni to Ronaldo (not Cristiano).

They even cover the best footballers currently in Europe today.

Yeah, shooting penalties in such a situation must be tough. And you can't really prepare because those situations happen so rarely. I was impressed how cool Alaba was, the guy is only 19.

("On the way to the penalty shot I lost my balls")

lol - i've been in several low key penalty shoot outs and i can honestly say they are f*cking horrid. And we are talking games where, tops, we had 100 people watching.

I missed in the last tournament we were in - it's a shitty feeling to put it mildly. (in the final, which we lost to Adidas :( )

I have no idea just what it's like with the expectations and hopes of 70,000 people in the stadium hanging on your spot kick - i imagine my arsehole would be gasping for air.

that is actually a Shweinsteiger quote, haha.

"On the way to the penalty spot my balls went missing, but then thank god I found them again."

In other news, MLS says that they will be among the worlds top leagues by 2022.

Speaking of USA NT, since the men's team didn't qualify for the Olympics this year, GO USA WMNT!

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/25/sports/olympics/us-womens-soccer-team-draws-path-against-japan-for-olympic-gold.html?_r=1

Quote
One year after losing to Japan in a compelling World Cup final, the United States women’s soccer team may have the rematch it has been seeking at this summer’s London Olympics.

The draw for the Olympic soccer tournament was held Tuesday in London, and the United States and Japan are two of the three seeded teams on the women’s side. If form holds, they will meet in the gold medal game on Aug. 9 at Wembley Stadium.

To get there, however, the United States must first navigate the group stage, which for the Americans begins with a difficult match against France in Glasgow on July 25 — two days before the opening ceremony.

Should the United States lose its opener (as it did four years ago in Beijing before going on to win the gold medal), it is still expected to advance as the other two teams in the group are Colombia, whom the United States will play on July 28, also in Glasgow; and North Korea, whom the United States will face on July 31 in Manchester, England.

Finishing first, however, could prove critical for the United States because if the Americans do — and if Japan wins its group, as is expected — the teams would not face each other in the knockout rounds until the gold medal game. Japan was drawn into a group with Canada, Sweden and South Africa.

“It’s always exciting to know who we will be playing,” United States Coach Pia Sundhage told USSoccer.com. “We will start with an excellent opponent that we faced in the World Cup, and that is a good thing. Once again, we will be facing teams with different playing styles, and that is a challenge our team enjoys.”

On the men’s side, where the United States failed to qualify for the Olympics, the most intriguing story is the controversy surrounding Britain’s team.

Team GB, as it is called, will be made up of players from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales — an arrangement that has not been the smoothest for any of the countries involved because each has its own soccer federation.

The notion of merging the countries sparked considerable debate over whether Team GB should even participate at all, and it is possible that the British teams will hear boos in their own country. Team GB’s women play in the first competition of the Olympics when they open against New Zealand on July 25 in Cardiff, Wales; the men’s team plays its first game a day later against Senegal in Manchester.

While the men’s Team GB is expected to contend for a medal, Brazil — led by the young superstar Neymar — is seen by many as the favorite, particularly because Lionel Messi and Argentina did not qualify. Spain is expected to be a top contender as well.

In the United States, however, the collapse of the men’s team in qualifying leaves the spotlight to the women’s team. Now the United States women finally know what awaits them in Britain.

“When the draw happens, it energizes our players and brings even more of a focus to our team,” Sundhage said. “We also have the chance to start scouting and preparing for what will be an entertaining and extremely competitive first round.”

long season for all three - it's going to play havoc

Might even have a punt on an outsider team.

If you asked me 6 months ago I'd say Holland has a chance, but now hmm.

Germany is always a safe bet and they are on a high now with Bayern doing good internationally and Dortmund having fresh talent back home.
England, hmm. Great players but haven't seen England play decent ever. Not to be rude but 90's + 00's weren't so hot. Which I really can't understand cause the talent is there.
France. New rejuvenized team from what I heard.
Spain. Players might be tired after a gruelling season this year, decline was obvious in barca/madrid games.
Portugal. No, Ronaldo is not enough at this level.
Italy. I have no clue what Italy is up to.

Outsiders:
Denmark, finished above Portugal in qualifiers. Young team, but crazy hard group for them that might intimidate them too much.
