I hate to say this but I think we've hit the point of diminishing returns in 2.5D sidescrollers

Fixed.

Sprite based sidescrollers can still wow people. These lifeless 3D models on a 2D plane are so 2006.

A Super Mario game?

Way to being the heat, Nintendo.

Next will be Zelda, Mario Kart and if they feel up to the challenge again Metroid.  :lol

It didn't take long at all for the big-name analysts and commentators to start bashing Nintendo. Here's what David Gibson, Head of Software & Services for Macquarie Capital Securities Japan said about today's Nintendo Direct.

At E3, already Nintendo announcement on WiiU but non event, pro controller is copy of 360,browser support coming -too late!

Real class act that guy is! My favorite part is how he ignored everyone else Nintendo talked about. Who cares about all the online interaction, community features, unique spin on conversation, Wii U GamePad redesign, Miiverse and everything else?

Browsers are old news and the Wii U Pro Controller is a total ripoff! Yeah, that's sticking it to Nintendo!

unique spin on conversation
i couldn't make this stuff up if i tried :rofl

adding clickable sticks was a good decision

adding that pro controller is pretty much concession to the fact that for most third party games all you are gonna get is a logo screen and a pause button on that tablet screen

Pro controller wouldn't be too bad if they replaced the stick/button location. Even if it is a 360 ripoff (hopefully it weighs less). Haven't seen the video yet but all the social media stuff sounds :yuck , I hate that shit in my games (especially since I'm primarily a single player gamer). Hopefully you can shut it off.

By the way, Nikkei just leaked that a 4.3 screen 3DS would be released (1.5 size increase...barf about that new resolution), and that the Wii U would be 30,000 yen.  So $299 for a Wii U, most likely.

30,000 yen is ~$390 right now. Wonder if they'd really hold to $299?

Both those rumors would be nice.

4.3 is PSP1 screen size, or right around DSi XL size.  I play DS game on my XL because the screens are much larger.  I can deal with chunky pixels.

this x 100

And guess what, Nintendo will give them no blueprint on how to make something interesting with the controller. Where was Nintendo's innovation with the Wii? Most of the first party games pretty much used the controller to enhance basic controls...by working like a mouse basically. I'd expect the same thing this time. Luckily developers already have 5-6 years experience with the DS, so they'll know exactly how to handle a touch screen: menus, inventory, and cut scenes!

Nintendo 3DS will be the focus of an upcoming E3 presentation on Wednesday, June 6.

The presentation will be hosted by Scott Moffitt, the Nintendo of America Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and will focus exclusively on 3DS software. The presentation itself is taking place at 6-7 p.m. PT/9-10 p.m. ET at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and is going to be live-streamed by Nintendo.

So in addition to yesterday's Nintendo Direct, tomorrow's conference, and two follow up panels, there's now an additional 3DS conference on Wednesday.

tomorrow is going to be a lot of wara wara for Wii U

Tomorrow's Nintendo conference is almost 100% confirmed to be JUST Wii U software talk.  On Wednesday, there's a completely separate 3DS conference.  And on Thursday, there's a software showcase showing all.

Nintendo really wants to hammer on software this year

"No, Nintendo always think of making games first. They realized that the traditional gamepad has actually been restrictive one what one could do with design and developers became complacent and lazy. They claimed they didn't develop for the Wii because it was underpowered, but underneath that lies a darker truth they didn't want to admit: that most developers aren't as talented as Nintendo in making games."

Third parties don't want to compete vs strong first parties. Microsoft let their 1st party stuff outside of Halo go into the trash can to attract more third parties. There's only so much audience per platform. If the company on the name of the console is putting out high quality stuff, it makes it harder for other companies pushing software on the platform.

Wait, why are we talking about this?
