How fluid is the combat when you're surrounded by guys? I know not to expect Batman, but is it good enough where you'll be able to smoothly transition from decking one guy in the face to another as long as theyre in striking distance?

Yeah. The opponent needs to be within striking distance. Like, if you're punching some dude and see another guy approach from the back, you can do a back kick move. But unless it's an upgrade, you can't leap towards enemies far away like in Batman.

The idea is similar to Batman but there are quite a few differences. I've played other games that had Batman combat and those are usually imperfect clones. Sleeping Dogs is mostly its own thing.

I've just been messing around in the world. Really like the overall design of the city.

And I like that Emma Stone's character is a vapid 20-something tourist who's into chinese dudes. Her dossier reads "for real--this chick's whole deal is that she wants chinese dudes." This game is fucking awesome. Played for five hours straight last night and only just unlocked the drug bust missions (which are fun as hell). Simply some of the best lighting Ive ever seen in a game. The way the neon lights reflect off the hood of your car looks downright photorealistic. The soundtrack is also one of the best Ive ever heard. The music just fits so perfectly. Mostly Im listening to Warp, Ninja and Softly. I flipped my shit as soon as I heard Shawn Lee and BeiBei come on. Combat feels great and is immensley satisfying. Havent had a single issue with timing counters or anything yet.

To anyone willing to spend an extra 2$, the Silver Pack you can buy off PSN/XBL hooks you up with XP for Triad, Cop and Face right at the start. I got it for shits and gigs but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't helping a bunch this early on.

One of the biggest, if not the biggest surprise in gaming for me.

The reason for this is that lower resolution artwork is used on many objects throughout the game, thus resulting in visible detail loss, while normal maps appear to be using a different, more lossy compression scheme which creates artifacts on surfaces which use the effect - the Xenos GPU has access to improved texture compression technology compared to RSX, which may explain this.

Elsewhere, a few other nip/tucks have been made to the PS3 code. The level of anisotropic filtering is lower on the Sony platform, impacting the clarity of the artwork from a distance, and lower quality LOD (level of detail) models are used during the cut-scenes, which see a number of small detail-enhancing features missing. The hair on the characters has been simplified slightly on the PS3 and the normal mapping present on the jewellery they are wearing is also absent. Meanwhile, in terms of post-processing effects, motion blur appears to be identical on both formats, although depth of field is stronger on the PS3.

Played it for a few hours. It's surprisingly fun. There is nothing really new here or amazingly good but its a solid execution on an open world title. I was also surprised at how much hand to hand combat there is in the game. You don't do your first gun mission for a few hours. The combat is another take on that Batman system (albeit a pretty easy one) and the animations are pretty brutal which is nice. The story is meh but at least there is one. I don't like my open world games to be really free form like Just Cause as I lose motivation. This keeps you pretty solidly on the path.

I think it was a mistake for Activision to drop this one unlike say Brutal Legend. I think with the right marketing this could have been a bigger deal. Not an amazing game for me but certainly better than stuff like Prototype or those Spiderman games they insist on cranking out.
