Tow truck missions were boring, but I thought owning a tow truck would be pretty cool for random havoc. Get to the garage and "this vehicle cannot be stored here"

Shooting bullets triggers a star, then stealing the truck triggers a second star, and it's impossible enough to escape in the truck when all 4 tires are intact. It is the definition of fun.

Depending on where you are, it's easier to hide from the cops instead of trying to outrun them.  You need some space at first, which can be a pain, but after that you can park it on a hill and wait it out.  And if we're thinking of the same truck, there is a location where you can sneak in, knock one dude out, and drive away with it without alerting the cops.  But generally I agree that outrunning cops in slow vehicles is a hassle, especially when missions force you to use those trucks and often trigger the cops for no real reason.

I'm talking about the second truck. The mission for the exterminator truck was 6 minutes of driving there and 5 seconds of just wakling past the guards and driving away in their truck.

The second truck spawns randomly on the map and just keeps going. Seems to have bulletproof glass so you can't shoot the driver. Sometimes its rear doors flop open after you shoot it once or twice, other times you shoot it with 30 shots and it doesn't do anything.

You get stars in the process of nabbing the truck so you are being rammed by cops 2 feet behind you from the jump, there is no way to just hide in an alley.

I'm going to try it again now. It really, really sucks a lot. Hopefully this reload will not put the truck on the same highway.

I think people are overhyping the assassination missions. The only use for money is properties.

Buying something as expensive as the Golf Course is not required at all for 100%. Waste of time. :yeshrug

You get 20 million at the end of the game, you are set for the most part.

landed a helicopter on a blimp.  quick saved at that spot.  now it loads straight into a freefall.  Pro-Tip: Trevor's special lets him survive falls.

Finally managed to steal a fighter jet, but they're so out of control that I broke off the wheels during my landing.  Jets are powerful enough to skid it over to the garage without wheels, then the engine gave out.  Tried using a nearby jeep to push it in to my garage, hoping it would still save and regenerate next time; jeep was too weak.  Tried using my other jet to push this jet into the garage; pushed too hard, ripped off the right wing.  Give up, attached a bunch of remote bombs, and blow it up.  Police come for destroying government property.

Trevor definitely elevates this game.

Does anyone else think Franklin is poorly characterized? He is simultaneously for and against everything he is doing. Which I'm sure is true of a lot of young gange members, but it's really not given any context. He will just switch from thinking Lamar is full of great ideas and going along with them to telling everyone to fuck off because he wants a legitimate job. Then he seeks out other illegitimate jobs with two different white people.

Even the repo job was described as his idea in the first cutscene and he shits on that too without he or the game acknowledging the shift.

Franklin is a virgin to the game. Michael and Trevor are veterans. You will find later on more about this.

I feel the game is actually Franklin's story. Michael and Trevor could be no different from NPCs, but this time they are actually playable, and we get to see what goes on with them.

I like Franklin the most but the game seems to be all over the place with him. It's okay for him to be all over the place but the game so far is not really playing that up. Hopefully later on this is addressed and expanded upon.

I've played about 7 hours and I'm 24% through the missions. I'm not good at math but that sounds like a 50 hour experience.

I can't wait to get stuck in to this. If it's really the rightful successor to GTA San Andreas, I'm going to catass this thing so badly, I'll have to obtain some cats to catass.

Do bicycles return? I loved bicycles in GTA:SA.

This game is what GTA IV should have been.
In some ways, I have to give Rockstar credit for trying something different. After GTA III, each iteration was about more side missions (DELIVER NOODLES. DANCE ON A BEACH. DANCE USING YOUR LOW RIDER CAR!), more vehicles (LIKE BOATS? HAVE A JET SKI! HAVE A PROPELLOR PLANE! HAVE A LEAR JET! HAVE A GYROCOPTER! HAVE A JETPACK!), less believable stuff (AREA 69, HURRR! YOUR BIKE CAN JUMP OVER A TRUCK! WHITE CHARACTERS CAN'T SWIM!), and it seems like they wanted to pause and re-evaluate.

They reigned in most of their impulses so they could tell a reasonably simple story about an immigrant, which shaved away most of the distractions to focus on that story. I think that took guts, even if I don't agree with the decision. Rockstar took away most of what I liked about the game, and left the story, and made it a much more serious story than Donald Love eating the candied remains of his just-assassinated opponent, or using a remote-controlled car to infiltrate a bordello.

And as the first non-portable GTA which offered multiplayer, there were some good modes there, but the basic deathmatch stuff really offers too much faith in their playerbase to choose their own parameters. They corrected it for RDR, which gets a lot right. So does MP3, so I am hype total for GTA Online.

GTA 5 is the real deal in the gameplay department. It's essentially RDR combined with GTA San Andreas. It's legit a great game. I think I liked RDR slightly more because the setting was so fresh but GTA 5 isn't far behind it.

As a dude who liked GTA 4, I'm glad they took that approach for a game and I enjoyed the story gravitas at the time, but ultimately I just think 5 is the more correct approach for a piece of interactive entertainment. I think things like The Walking Dead are ultimately better suited for telling the kind of stories GTA 4 was going for without having the burden of throwing in action every 2 seconds that conflicts with the themes and the general aims of telling a good story.

Wow, yeah, I could totally see Nico's story in the visual novel style of TWD. Can you imagine the public reaction if Rockstar made a game like that?

I'd like to say Rockstar would never take a chance like that, but they made R* Table Tennis not all that long ago, a legit great game which was mainly built as a tech demo.

It can be, but it gets considerably easier if you do the following:

- Buy the best Armor
- Stick and move, dont stand in place
- If you are Trevor or Michael, use their super powers
- Use the auto-lock if you have it enabled, it instantly sticks to the nearest person

I just got killed by a single policeman while getting out of a car, because they decided getting out of a car should be super realistic and last five seconds. On the other hand, I hardly ever die on missions after having been shot many more times. It's like they have this arbitrary system in place for what kills you and what you live through. I dunno, just seems like everything requires a lot of extra hassle for not much payoff. I suppose I would like it a lot better and be a bit more tolerant had I not just played a game where I can run up and powerslam or bulldog anyone shooting at me. I went in trying not to compare it to SRIV, but it's hard not to after playing GTAV for several hours. SRIII and IV just do everything so much better, other than the layout and AI population of the game world.

yeah, it can get annoying.  the hardest part when stealing a jet is how long it takes for the character to get in the seat, and all the while you have enemies taking potshots.  there's only that one animation speed for entering vehicles or getting up off the ground.  and when health only regenerates to 50% (slowly), you're about as resilient as sam jackson in unbreakable until you heal up proper.

to be fair, it's the same as the PS2 GTAs (and much better than GTA4), but you have moments where the dude takes a solid seven seconds to stand up while enemies lay into him.

And I was interested in the online, but I doubt my major complaints about it will change much (if at all) online, they'll just be amplified because I'll have real people shooting at me on top of everything else.

The glitch involving vanishing vehicles on load is a huge PENIS STAMP on this game.

I would make quick saves before doing stunt jumps, and if I fucked up I would simply reload.

It would work, but then there would be that one time where my vehicle was GONE. So I would have to go BACK to the city, buy my motorcycle, drive ALL THE WAY back to the desert... and do it again.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking annoying.

That said, all I need now is

- 2 Under the Bridges (for some reason two diddnt register, so this will be fun)
- 15 (All) the Knife Flights
- 11 Story Missions

Then I am 100% and ready to fuck pussies with my fist.

I can't wait for GTA online.

I actually wasn't all that excited for the intro mission; it felt like EA's "sixty dollar minute" theory in action.

Then I got to Franklin, and the game gave me a little teaser, and then let me do whatever I want! After a really meaningless and confusing misunderstanding at the nearby strip joint (no, really!), I end up fleeing from the police for a while. I like the WANTED System this time around.

I go out to get my car, but it's not in the garage ( ??? ) I tried to hail a taxi, ended up jacking it by accident. Immediately, the dispatcher is calling and offering jobs. I take several, which net me nearly $1000, showing me more of the city, the driving, and dropping off a client next to the first Ammunation I've seen since Vice City Stories. I bought some armor, a pistola and some bullets. Ammunation: open all night for disreputable peeps running a stolen taxi operation like me. :heartbeat

I will say this about the opening sequence: I thought My god, this is some great electronic music. It sounds like the opening to James Caan's Thief, so someone is aping Tangerine Dream pretty well. Then the soundtrack credits come up later, and it's motherfucking Tangerine Dream.

This game and I are going to get along just fine.
