Nice save, Quick. But Pavelski needed to elevate that.

Fun fact:  Since 2003, no team has won the Stanley Cup twice.  And only Pittsburgh, Detroit, and New Jersey have even made it to the finals twice.

As of tonight, however, the five teams still alive are also the five most recent Cup winners, so some team will have finally won the Cup twice in the past decade.

I don't watch NHL, but I thought some you guys might wanna watch this 30 for 30 short about Clint Malarchuk. I'd heard of his injury before but I'd never actually seen it. This shows footage of it.

Needless to say, it's a bit

I estimate, for instance, that there are five million N.H.L. fans in the greater Toronto region. . . : about twice as many as in the New York metropolitan area, which has three N.H.L. teams.

Has an NHL team ever won a Stanley Cup without being comprised of a majority of Canadians. I'd think the Wings of 08 probably weren't made up of a majority of Canadians, and probably a slim plurality over the Swedes.

17 Canadians on the Pens, Bruins, and Kings. 16 on the Hawks.

I didn't count Craig Adams (family was living Belize) or Robyn Regehr (son of Canadian missionaries living in Brazil)

Yeeeah, that seems a really unnecessarily long article that can be boiled down to two factors:

1)  Canadian economy was shit when league was no limits, free-spending, and intro'd the hard cap when the Canadian economy surpassed America.

and

2)  Canadians are so hockey mad that it doesn't matter if the team is good or sucks, we fill the arenas anyway, thus limiting the incentive to field a quality team.

But Nate Silver gets paid by the spreadsheet, so whatever.

And yeah, when I was younger, I was angsty about the lack of a Canadian team winning the Cup.  But it's our sport, we've won two of the last three Olympic golds.  It doesn't matter who pays their cheques, the top players in the world all don the red and white when it comes to picking sides.  Except Brett Hull. :P

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'd still like to see the Leafs become Cup contenders tho

I see the shots are 17-6 in favor of the Hawks, yet the Kings lead 1-0. If Quick played for the Leafs, every second high-school in the GTA would be named after him by now.

Glenn Healy is such a tool; he actually suggested the Pens go back to MAF.
