Obama is rounding up all the libertarians in this country and grinding them up into food pulp with his massive gullet, which he will then feed to the poor and needy. A good comic.

Looks like it was a shitty bill that led Democrats to join a filibuster.

Not that it matters. Even if they'd gotten 59 votes on it, it still would have failed.

Not falling for this shit. Reid is a creature of the Senate, and will always side with options that preserve precedent and "the way things always were." I'm even less convinced due to his behavior. Typically when someone keeps saying "you better stop doing x, or I'm gonna do y any day now!" you know that person is fronting. If he was serious he would have made one threat, and then pulled the trigger shortly after republicans violated the rules.

I think that even if Reid really wanted to change the filibuster rules, there aren't 50 dem votes to do it.  So huffing and puffing is all he really has to do about it.

It's worth remembering this isn't about the filibuster in general - it's about ending the filibuster for cabinet/executive nominees. Bills will still require 60. The media and republicans have framed this as "nuking the filibuster" when in reality it's more like downgrading an aspect of filibusters.

i defriended most acquaintances that say ignorant bullshit on my page because i dont want to see that. as far as family goes, only the lefties go on rants, while the right-wingers keep it to themselves aside from the occasional concern trolling bs. i think all of them have me on ignore because when i do say something political its usually forceful and angry as fuck and theyre too polite to argue or say something. the only time i really get in fb arguments is when i go in someone elses comments and start some shit.

I used to post political issues, mostly uncontroversial stuff (ex. rape bad), but I came to find out that several of my friends, turned out to be extreme conservatives. If you had a conversation with them about anything non-political, you never would have guessed in a million years (hell, one of them's gay, even). I've had some unfortunate experiences where I lost two friends who I've known for like 12 years cause of politics so I try to be careful about that shit nowadays.

Maybe it's cause I have abysmally low expectations, but I'm pretty pleased with what happened. Cordray and Jackson getting appointed heads of the CPFB and EPA are arguably two of the most important accomplishments Obama will have in his second term.

Ramming through candidates? One of them just passed with 66 votes in the Senate. This has nothing to do with voting down a bad nomination and everything to do with the Republicans not wanting ANYONE to pass through to these bureaus.

McConnell and Reid first met on Monday afternoon in an unscheduled meeting about two hours after McCain sat with the majority leader. "Mitch, I know you came to see me, but let me just start off by telling you: I have the votes," Reid told McConnell, according to an aide Reid briefed immediately after. "Say whatever you want, but I have the votes."

"Here's my offer," McConnell responded. "You'll get all your nominees, but you have to agree that there'll be no more rules changes."

McConnell would have let the controversial National Labor Relations Board nominees pass -- despite GOP objections that two courts have deemed their recess appoints unconstitutional -- in return for an iron-clad promise from Reid to forsake the nuclear option -- the controversial procedure that would allow a simple majority to change Senate rules, instead of the usual supermajority.

"The key point is that [McConnell] backed off all of his other demands yesterday and again today and said he'd give us everyone [all the nominees] as long as Reid agreed not to go nuclear this Congress," another Democratic aide said. "Reid refused twice. At the end, that was his single, solitary demand and he didn't get it."

"He left empty-handed and has just been completely humiliated by his own caucus," said another aide.
