My favorite part was Blow taking a snarky shot at the other games, bet he was reeeeal popular backstage after that

Seriously, fuck that guy with Thor's Dildo of Extreme Justice.  I can't think of a single way he makes gaming better.  Go fuck yourself, you self-satisfied smug piece of shit.  Gaming doesn't need you, asshole.

IMO the single best aspect from the entire conf is the concept of trying full games before you play. The free trial stuff is a great concept they have currently with PS3 but since you have to download the ENTIRE GAME it's not really useful. However being able to load up the game over the cloud to try it for a period of time nearly instantly? That's goddamned amazing.

The best part of the conference for me? My wife coming home near the end and casually asking "So which one are you gonna buy: Microsoft or Sony?"

Family finances conversation avoided. Score.

'I'm buying the Sony. You're buying me the Microsoft'

/shrug.

I found the presentation to be exactly what it needed to be. It tells us the key features and ideas behind the console. It shows up there will be developer support. It shows us there will be some known games and some unknown games.

Calling it shitty or dog shit seems like extreme hyperbole.

yeah, it's not that bad, but it is underwhelming.

Everything remotely exciting was about the OS.  The streaming stuff is very cool, and the share stuff is the best part of onlive.  But the hardware power wasn't conveyed well.  No explanation about how the new controller matters for games (touchpad, camera tracking.  No real mention of the camera.  No shot of the consoles.

And it was just lacking on the software side.  As much as I like Infamous, it's all samey games, like PS3+.  I kept expecting Killzone 4 to pan out and you could fly around the city in one of those planes.  Nope.  It's straight up a prettier killzone shoter.

Is it as bad as that Xbox 360 MTV thing? no, but that wasn't 2 hours long.

seriously, though, streaming stuff to the Vita is really neat if it really minimizes the lag.

I was gonna bitch how underwhelming Watch Dogs looked, as I was expecting an improvement over last year's E3 demo, but got Ubi patented tearing and hist. First thing I wanted to blame were consoles, but the Ubisoft rep on GT just confirmed it was running on PC with "comparative specs of a PS4... we have it running on a PS4 in the office, honest."

Work in progress, I know I know.

For what?  The capcom Devil's Souls clone?  Killzone?

The only thing that actually interests me is Watch Dogs, but just in a "$20 steam sale" kind of way.

Notably absent from that presentation:  the actual console itself, details about DRM anti-used games shit, ANY talk of price, and Kaz.  Not feeling it.

8 US GIGABYTES OF GRAPHIC DOUBLE DATA RATE FIVE MEMORY

I wonder how many gigabytes are devoted to SHARE buttons. Cacheing video data for 720/1080p gameplay and having a slick suspend system is going to come at a cost... they didn't mention what was actually reserved for gameplay

Microsoft can easily smoke this reveal. As long as they don't go too Kinect 2.0 heavy.

Are you seriously saying that the power of this thing isn't a little exciting? Knowing that Sony is going all out with the hardware (within reason for a home console) makes me pretty damned excited because I know what ridiculously talented developers they have working full time exclusively for the system.

Microsoft can easily smoke this reveal. As long as they don't go too Kinect 2.0 heavy.

Microsoft won't smoke anyone. Maybe Nintendo.

Agreed. They revealed some details but never touched upon, leaving me with more questions. And it wasn't like they had no time, this was a 2 hour show with lots of padding here and there. They wasted time on some developers for the sake of "well, we're trying to make a point." Blizz and SE segments had zero actual impact aside from being PR boosts.

Well... graphics hasn't been a problem with KZ games this gen so that's neither here nor there at this point. It's going to look good, but it's just another shooter. I would have been more excited to see a Ratchet game which I doubt anyone agrees with me on.

But Infamous  :heart :hyper

Nothing game-wise really jumped out at me too much... Knack and Watch Dogs were the only ones that weren't (what seemed to me) canned footage. SE "oh we're working on FF, stay tuned to E3" just further proves how much of a joke that company is.

Was hoping to see:
-system design
-price reveal
-whether or not they are going ahead with the used games ban (I have a feeling both Sony and MS are playing "chicken" with this, both have the logistics in place but are waiting for the other to make the first move)
-region free

it's a screen cap of the only footage they've released - or have you seen some other footage you could link me to? i want to feel what everyone else is feeling.

Watch Dogs and Deep Down both looked pretty cool, don't care about PS4 though.

Naughty Dogs game needs to be baller, because the games they showed really weren't

Deep Down looked beautiful, a bit Dark Souls or Skyrim-esque, but what is it? How does it play? What was exciting about it?

Watch_Dogs looked good again, but more moments of current gen convention are leaking through. I felt like I could see some Assassins Creed team code-sharing on the screen when he was chasing the guy down alleys and stuff. When it went into slowmo after scaling the railings, it looked exactly like the moment of hesitation before a kill in AC.

We'd already seen Destiny, Agni's Philosophy, and other stuff. I really could have done without all the developer waffling, especially from the likes of David Cage - showing us silent movies to show us that once upon a time people learned to act, and then later showing us a near lifeless old man with some eye animation. David Cage is gaming cancer. Somehow, the guy from Sucker Punch managed to deliver an even more terrible soliloquy. Abominable.

Honestly? The only impressive things they showed were the Gakai aspects of the UI and that Media Molecule sculpting thing, which quickly devolved into a horrible, scripted and not at all player-designed version of Wii Music. Horrendous.

No images of the console, no price, no Naughty Dog, no big Santa Monica game, no Studio Liverpool ( :( ), no EA, no Activision - no insane gulf on the screen that will justify $500. 8GB of GDDR5 is only nice if we see something that justifies it. Microsoft and Nintendo will be happy tonight.

Some info from gofreak's twitter since GAF is dead:

- Also, the camera is 60fps @ 1280x800, 120fps @ 640x400, 240fps @ 320x192
- Controller PR mentions improved analog sticks and triggers
- Details of the camera in there too. 85 degree FoV, face recognition for login
- Select+Start merged into Options button, ala the Edge report
- A headset will be bundled with PS4: http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/130221b_e.pdf
- PS4 press releases are up: http://www.scei.co.jp/index_e.html  Short but sweet spec sheet here: http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/130221a_e.pdf

Yeah well... things are looking good, no?

like i said, everything looked great except the games.  it's always hilarious to me when companies push this "WE CAN DO ANYTHIIIIIIING NOW, LIMITATIONS ARE GONE" and then show the same ol' shit.

don't get me wrong, i know there's going to be some cool/interesting stuff on the system, but they certainly didn't show any of it.

The stuff I'm interested in might be shown at E3, but probably won't be shown until TGS.

I suppose, but for me Infamous and knowing what studios are playing around with this hardware right now is sort of enough to get excited. I thought Infamous really made the PS3 look limited, so a new game of the same type running on a proper system... that's hot.

meh, what's the use even debating it?  Both consoles will get their share of games and have pretty much equal amounts of bullshit.

aside from a huge pricing difference or major surprise x-factor, they'll be HD twins again...with a choice set of miniscule differences to serve as the foundation for another console generation's worth of distinguished mentally-challenged bickering.
