You can just tell by the first one and the demo of the second one that they will never make an amazing fps.   It's all off except teh grffx, which in the KZ2 demo were just filters upon filters.

also never forget "it's a gun, it's supposed to be heavy and turn slowly"   :lol

All the Killzone games are solid shooters. Even the PSP game was good until you reached the final boss. Fuck that guy.

I'd much rather have Killzone as the launch shooter than another Resistance. Too bad Zipper Interactive isn't around to make another MAG.

It'd be a landmark achievement for the Killzone team if they didn't need to patch in responsive controls for once

Our approach on PS4 is similar to what we did to PS3.

We’re using our own job scheduler to distribute the load over 6 CPU’s.

A lot of the old SPU jobs easily fell into place, but it was mostly the rendering code.

We spent most of the time porting gamecode and AI to jobs and then a lot of time fixing crashes.

As of now all of our code now runs in parallel using jobs.

Multi-core CPU usage has gotten pretty advanced. I remember when a dual core was considered a waste because almost nothing useful utilized it.

yeah but is the job scheduling to the metal or just half way there?  It's all for naught if the job scheduling doesn't make it all the way, thus making the load distribution quite uneven and, frankly, not up to my standards.

Sony is going to give PlayStation 4 a big marketing push and the keywords behind it are "Greatness Awaits." Siliconera obtained a leak from a company working on the campaign. The commercial starts off by showing an empty road in a small town. A lone guy walks down the road towards the camera and says, "Who are you not to be great? You, with the imagination of a brilliant child and the powers of an ancient god."

"Who are you to be ordinary? You, who could get away with murder, or raise the dead…" As the guy says this the buildings start to look damaged.

"Who are you to be anonymous? You, whose name should be spoken in reverent tones or in terrified whispers." We hear a distant screech – and in the far background some windows blow out from the sound. Suddenly, two people sprint the opposite way covered in yellow paint.

"Who are you to be afraid? You, who can serve as judge and jury while hoarding infinite lives." The nearby buildings appear increasingly damaged as he walks. We begin to notice a few people are starting to come out and follow behind him – three friends fall in behind while a kid on a BMX bike rolls in from an alley off the
main street, his friend is standing on the back foot pegs carrying a hockey stick and wearing a homemade cape. He passes by some abandoned cars in the middle of the road. But more brave souls have joined our hero’s cause. They walk behind him – following him wherever it is he is headed.

"Who are you to be a slave to the past? You who can travel time like the oceans and rewrite history with a single word." Without wavering and with growing focus our hero continues to head straight towards camera, passing some rubble spattered in yellow paint. With the wind blowing against him and the sounds of chaos in front, he begins to raise his voice to be heard. In the background, we see a home-made lag painted with the icon from Destiny unfurl out a broken window.

"Who are you to deny greatness? If you would deny it to yourself, you deny it to the entire world."

Compare it against the first batch of games for the PS3 like Resistance: Fall of Man, Genji: Days of the Blade and Ridge Racer 7. The graphics are good enough. The game will stand or fall based on how it feels and the general structure of the campaign.

It will probably look better than the PS3 version of GT6 at a fraction of the budget.

Fact that most of 2013's 'next gen' library is made up of cross-gen games won't help.  The only proper next gen game announced is Thief 4 for 2014.  Surely EA, Activision, and Ubisoft will announce a couple, but they already have their fall lineups announced, for the most part.

1080p 30fps will be the next gen standard

Would be nice if they included a 720p option w/ higher framerates, but I doubt most devs will bother.

The problem is that they need to convince the average customer that this is some kind of step up from what they already have.  Early PS3 games don't look as good as today's PS3 games, but they sure as hell looked obviously and significantly better than late PS2 games in similar genres.
Sure, diminishing returns will be an issue for next-gen consoles especially for people who play on low-end TVs without a dedicated audio system. For Driveclub I think they'll try to push other features like seamless online team multiplayer instead of the graphics.

1080p 30fps will be the next gen standard
Yep, and that's fine for genres like RPG, strategy and adventure. I hope more developers aim for 60 FPS when it comes to faster games.

iiirc, Killzone, Driveclub, and Thief 4 are 1080p 30fps.  Don't know if anything has been said about crossgen games, but so far the 'next gen' games are using that standard, yes.

honestly, i'm bracing for the worst.  The only thing is that the always-online (or whatever this fucked up DRM actually is) rumors all seemed to be about the xbox, without any rumors like that about the PS4, so maybe it'll turn out okay?

That's why E3 will rule.  Sony's conference will be a massive reality check.  Microsoft does have those "15 exclusives," and with expectations are nonexistent at this point, it'll be the spark needed to reinvigorate the defeated fans.  Nintendo's going to announce Mario, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario and its crew will try to play it off as relevancy.  Perfect storm for lunatics to go wild.

And we might see some Thief 4 gameplay  :omg

Let's not kid ourselves.  The anti-used game thing is going to be industry standard next gen.  Sony saying it's up to the publisher is basically the same as some fucked up Hostel-style rapehouse owner saying they have no control over what happens to that girl tied up downstairs after dropping off a bunch of recently paroled rapists.

Not really. Pubs already have that capability now, it's why EA got rid of online passes. Most pubs don't have online passes. They could very well do that shit right now. Most don't. I fully expect EA to do it. Maybe Ubi. Maybe Activision. But I don't expect all publishers to use this draconian method on the ps4. Leaving it up to pubs leaves A LOT of room.

the best thing they could do is nothing and keep the current norm, but...yeah, not likely.

Let me try to ask you a different question... do you think this (getting a slice of the used game pie) is something that publishers DON'T WANT?  Do you think that if, when presented with an option to do it as part of the start of a next gen, they're really gonna be able to restrain themselves?

Like I said.  Let's not kid ourselves.  This is coming, and it's coming industry wide.

It will be nice when Sony inevitably gives details to what its people have been coy about.  Like, is the PS Crosseye camera required? is it even included? that's one of the more off-putting parts of the Xbox One to me.  And hey, at least Microsoft killed any interested I had in the Xbox One instead of leaving a lingering sense of hope that it could turn out alright.

I'll still end up playing every multiplatform game on PC, but some of my favorite games this past gen never came out on PC.  All I want to know how bad the PS4 will be.
