As for the comic talk.
I get my trades from
http://www.instocktrades.com/ . They are pretty cheap. If you want to pirate, there's torrents of stuff for Saga and whatnot out there.
As for recommendations:
Saga is pretty great. A millennials' sci-fi/fantasy family drama.
Velvet is what if Ms. Moneypenny from James Bond was a spy. My mother seems to like it.
Pretty Deadly is a strange poetic wild west fantasy thingy. The art work sure is pretty.
East of West is also a plot heavy wild west apocalyptic fantasy series. Kind of hard to recommend, but it is interesting if you buy into it.
Lazuras is about this families' female enforcer. The family happens to control a good portion of America in this corporate feudalisim world. Also she may not be thier actual daughter and is a super soldier.
The current Ms. Marvel is a colorful and cartoony comic about a Muslim teenager nerdy girl who loves the Avengers and then gets powers of her own. It's charming so far.
Older stuff like Transmetropoltin is great. Y The Last Man is always amusing. Gotham Central makes for good cop stories in the world where Batman lives. Fatale(on going is still kind of ok).
I also enjoyed Nowhere Men. It's slow and odd, but it's this this strange "what if the Beatles where scientists". A lot of it went over my head, but I liked the oddness.
