i'm not sure it's possible to work in a job where you're interacting with a large group of gamers on a fairly regular basis and not become disgusted with them. from there, it's just a hop, skip, and a jump into the welcome arms of the companies.
I don't disagree that people get burned out eventually. But he kinda brought the ire on himself when he was like "YEAH 1080p OR GIVE ME DEATH!" (X-box outputs 900p) "...Well, actually, who cares about resolution now?

If you're not going to stand with your (strong) opinion, you kinda get the ire you deserve from it.
That said he was in the journalism industry for 20 years, so it isn't like people
hated him. He simply was a dinosaur of the TV-era (Youtube killed the TV star...) that couldn't keep up with the consumers demands and then when he started to shill after so long people called him out on it.
He should've silently retired used his "consulting firm" to springboard into Microsoft's arms if that's what he wanted. Speaking of the consulting: Is he doing anything? Outside of E3 on Spike for like 1-3 days I haven't heard his consulting firm business taking off or anything.
