It's a jab at Nintendo's account system. I'm not sure if that's always the case to get Customer Support to cooperate, but I think if you tell them that you got robbed and you need replacement parts or digital content transferred, you have to provide a police report to get them to oblige.

This is pretty amazing, because we've suspected this was coming for months, and the entire time, there was near-universal consensus that just about everyone would hate this move if Microsoft ended up going in this direction. Now they've confirmed that they are, in fact, this out of touch. How do they still have die-hard defenders?

they always were as obnoxious its just that MS had a pretty decent situation that didn't warrant much reaction.

i.e they may have lost hardware vs Wii but they have the software, exclusive DLC at times and multiplatform games are usually in their favor performance wise.
