as someone who grew up on foodstamps ( the OG ebt card), I don't remember having a lot of fresh veggies around. Velveeta cheese, white bread, cheap hamburger meat, and canned everything, yes.

Yeah sex and religion and are usually not simple things to decide so if somebody decides to be in the center of the spectrum, many would consider them a fence-sitter. Only somebody who's really extreme would argue that everything has to have two sides.
