Beauty culture is definitely not fun. I'm constantly comparing myself to women. Like every single one I encounter. "Oh, look at her brow. I wish I had that. Look at those lips, I got her beat. I love her makeup, I should compliment her. Wow, I love her cheekbones. The way she wears that is great." But at the same time, I LIKE shaving legs, and I LIKE makeup and see nothing wrong with pursuing it so long as one doesn't get caught up in the idea that they're infected with the Uggo and has an appreciation for their self.
It takes a lot of willpower to tame yourself to be like that, but I find the men who are like,"You're just as beautiful without makeup" types are just as bad as the ads that make women want to look like some doctored up movie star in a magazine ad. Rarely does his convictions stand the test of time, and almost always it's the guy talking about HIS feelings - with the idea of appealing to HER feelings, though he's not - without a concern for hers. It's another appeal to beauty standards, but reversed, as if to say there's something wrong with LIKING to appear feminine.
