Journey to the West is a Buddhist allegory. It takes the historical westward journey of  Xuanzang (of the Tang dynasty) to obtain sutras, to expand the knowledge of Chinese Buddhism. JttW subplants this into a folktale, full of bodhisattvas, buddhas, all of the realms of Buddhist mythology, and marrying it with Chinese folk tales. It contains wit, humor, wisdom, sprituality, and cute anecdotes. Which is the opposite of what Enslaved tried to accomplish. In Enslaved, you still have Tripitaka, and Son Wukong, but the rest is discarded to tell a story of a post apocalyptic story without a hint of the things I liked about it.

It's like Dante's Inferno being turned into a mindless hack and slash. Wait, they did that.  :neogaf I'm all for different interpretations, but Enslaved goes a bit far to the point where I didn't see the point in it. Dynasty Warriors, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Romance of the Three Kingdoms) and Suikoden (The Water Margin) are far more respectful towards their original sources. Sucks because out of the four classical Chinese novels, Journey is easily my favorite and it would have been cool to play a game version.

I'm just a Chinese history/folklore nerd who wants Chinese  history/folklore games. :tocry

cant remember if i ever asked you this before, but you ever play this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saiyuki:_Journey_West

Saiyuki as a srpg is pretty middling. Saiyuki as an adaptation to Journey to the West is pretty fucking solid.

Was Bioware ever good? Because every game I've played by them has been disappointing.

Baldurs Gate is meh.
Baldurs Gate 2 is a classic.
MDK2 is fantastic.
Neverwinter Nights sucks.
KOTOR is meh.
Jade Empire is terrible.
Mass Effect is okay.
Mass Effect 2 is pretty damn good.
Mass Effect 3 I have not played.
Dragon Age Origins is great.
Dragon Age 2 I have not played.

In my experience, Bioware has like, four good games under their belt, but I could consider Mass Effect half a good game, so it's more like 4 and a half good games.

Kotor sucks.

Awful combat system.
Terrible corridor dungeons.
Awful graphics.
Repetitive structure (planet -> solve new quests -> new planet -> solve peoples problems).
Predictable plot-twist.

Kotor 2 is the real deal.

While some is lost from 1, the actual game is much better. Better side quests, better variety, better pacing, much better combat, better character arcs, and better set pieces and more memorable moments (Jack's science lab and its atmosphere, Mordin and his struggle for making the genophage, Thane;ect.).

Compared to going to random crappy worlds to get minerals, shoot down mercs in copy pasta depots. Terrible.

There are in fact many people that don't enjoy driving a scooter around randomly generated maps for ~20 hours, believe it or not. The combat in ME1 is a clunky, terrible hybrid. The graphics come together in an ugly way, the equipment and inventory system is bland and clunky. Pretty shit game, minus the lore and music (:bow)
I actually liked the Mako. Trying to take as straight a route as possible was fun. As was running over those giant Geth. I knew that you'd get less XP if you killed them in the Mako, but it was too good to see them crumble into a pile and then back up over them as they tried to get up.
Complete shite handling on anything but wide open terrain though, I'll give you that. Instead of fixing it they just took it out entirely. Same with the inventory. :lol

Plot-wise, all three games made glaring mistakes, but I think I cared most about ME2 in the end. Mordin alone made up for the pretty but pointless intro and assorted other nonsense, like the scale of Cerberus or the whole thing about the military not defending the colonies, when apparently one AA cannon would have sufficed...
As a game, it was a lot more fun than ME1, too. The occasional triple health bar notwithstanding.

Probing is fine on consoles. I hated it on PC due to mouse controls.

And I find it impossible to spam in ME2. In ME2 you fight A LOT of robots which need to be debuffed before they can be shot up. Add in the different kinds of ammo for different enemies and there's no way at all combat has been dumbed down from ME1.

RE: the thread about John Lewis UK suggesting Xbox One could be more popular here than PS4
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=694702

GAF are treating the execs comments with an unfair degree of derision, and even going so far as to scrutinise their online store in a way that will allow them to suggest bias

John Lewis are a business with a 9.5bln turnover, they own the Waitrose brand among others, and they're at the height of their powers. Games aren't their bread and butter but they've had consistently increasing profits until 2008, rising again since then, and 13+ consecutive years of significantly increasing revenues. It shows a fair bit of disrespect to dismiss what he's saying out of hand.

If what zomgwtfbbq's source has said about UK pre-orders rings true, then PS4 is going to sell more here out of the gate than Xbox One, but I think all present trends point towards the next Xbox doing very well indeed. Xbox 360 versions of recent major titles have all held significantly higher shares than PS3 counterparts, XBL is likely to have some degree of retention, and the Xbox One launches a full week earlier here. Not to mention the recent debacles of retailers trying to push price-advantage-nullifying PS4 bundles on those with pre-orders.

I've got my phasers set to Crow-serving. There's a half decent chance people can be eating it early next year.

Clueless.

I tried to follow the dating thread on GAF, but I was pretty quickly turned off by stuff like this. It's full of people giving advice who are so not qualified to give advice. They have no valuable experience, which is immediately evident when they try to present regurgitated, boiler plate advice as insight or just post straight BS like the above that would only work in a movie. That being said, I would love to sit back and watch some of those dudes try to operate in real life.

I played Mass Effect 2 first and loved it so much I played Mass Effect 1 and found it to be awesome as well. The differences aren't necessarily bad, just different. I liked the tone of ME1 and the overall story was better told. I didn't mind the Mako rover sections.

ME2 has a better style and better characters and the loyalty missions were awesome.

At least ME2 cuts most of wandering around to push the story forward out to get through the game quicker.

That's not a fair comparison. That 360 player is just slow as shit, also that planet the person is mining on pc has more minerals, so of course it's faster. Also, the console version is more stable. Clicking a mouse, and dragging it all over the planet is tedious.

Doesn't he realize this is how it always works?  They find the person that will capture the biggest audience for these types of things.  The same way Rosa Parks got the backing she did even though there were multiple women who did the same thing before her.  But they weren't as marketable.

How was Rosa Parks more marketable than the "others"? Hotter? ???
European ancestry, not an alcoholic, not a single mother, etc.  Other women did the same thing before but activist movements didn't want to shine a light on them because they had issues which could be exploited by the opposition in the media.

That's not a fair comparison. That 360 player is just slow as shit, also that planet the person is mining on pc has more minerals, so of course it's faster. Also, the console version is more stable. Clicking a mouse, and dragging it all over the planet is tedious.
What? The cursor moves faster on the PC version, that's why I posted the videos. It would be even more obvious if the PC dude didn't mine every piddly resource he found.
