I didn't pay much attention to the post you linked but I think that thread is trying a little too hard. I can understand why someone might be offended, but personally it's hard for me to see that character as "transphobic". She looks awesome and it seems like a rad fight.

One of the funnier things about all those Wii U screenshots in the next-gen screenshot thread is how just a few short years ago all those ballwashers were shouting at the top of their lungs how little graphics mattered and how it was "all about the gameplay". People like that, and I'm paraphrasing a gaffer here, should have their finger joints smashed into a fine film of dust particles so they can never shit up gaming websites ever again.

That scenario wouldn't solve all the other issues with the Wii U. The OS would still be slow, the gamepad would still feel sorta cheap, and the games would still be tied the physical unit instead of an account.

Nintendo wouldn't be able to afford (the time and money) to make their best games without the money they muck-rake in on handhelds, console peripherals and a royalties on every piece of software sold. They would need to totally restructure their business.

I think we're transitioning over to games as a service anyway... it's not just gonna shake up Nintendo, everyone is gonna end up having to think about how they continue driving demand for dedicated hardware

The problem is that Nintendo simply does not have the ability to compete with Microsoft and Sony.  Last generation, since motion control gaming was a fad, it helped cover things for Nintendo for about three years.  Then when the blue ocean moved to iOS, the Wii sales were pretty subpar.  Nintendo consoles are pretty shitty deals.  For $100 more, instead of a Wii U, you can get a new PS4 with shitloads of more useful features than the Miiverse or TVii.

I really think Nintendo's future is an Apple TV/Roku type machine that also plays Nintendo games.  It could be a partnership type of thing, it would sell for cheap, and would still allow Nintendo's base of several million play the latest super jumpyman games.

Xbox One launches on Friday, I think. Hardware reviews are out today. GAF outages are pretty much daily routine now, but at least it forces me to get some work done.
