The GAF mods of today are a lot better; they're boring but stable people which means a lot.  sp0rsk and Co. did a lot of damage to the boards, effectively sending it down the slippery slope of shit around 2007 where it never recovered.

That said, the current crop of mods is FAR better. Stump, Crushed, Seda, Aeana. Such a fantastic lineup. Only ones I'm actually still iffy about are the old guard lol, ducky and Evi.

I don't get the hate for Dragona. I keep hearing about her banning people for "perceived sexism" and yet I've posted some of the most sexist and perverse shit to her and never got banned for it.

She (allegedly, we'll never know since no ban logs in public) lawnmowered "hurr hurr women drivers can't drive" "joke" posts in women driver threads of the time kinda like Bishop does lawnmower bans in race/homosexual/whatever "offends" him threads at times.

Hmm... not that this really merits a serious reply, but I think there's assumptions about what it means to moderate a message board that don't really jive with what the gig entails. Some people assume that one would take on the gig because it makes you some sort of celebrity, while some others think it's a tireless effort as suddenly you are charged with and solely responsible for "cleaning up" the place -- that if one can cite poor posts, it reflects poorly on the moderators there. Maybe I just don't understand the game, but I don't really see either as being true.

I didn't think having a red name would make me a superstar, and it hasn't. As for the responsibility and working for free, the fact that it's a free gig is really the thing that makes it worthwhile. By and large, the only expectation is that you exercise good judgement in trying to uphold the site's vision as laid out by the ToS in threads you are already reading/posting in. If it was a paid gig and we were dished out assignments with EviLore (or someone else) coming in and evaluating our work after the fact, it would be miserable as I'm sure whatever the pay would be, it wouldn't be enough.

Sometimes, I feel like the criticism is that we're too heavy-handed. Other times, it's that we're too lazy and letting crappy posters run rampant. But when I read posts like your's, it's hard not to walk away with any other thought than that you have some vague idea that GAF mods are shitty because they're not banning the people you don't like, which is fine I suppose. I'm just not sure what you expect.

Whether you think we fairly adhere to this standard or not (and I would assume that you don't), the general goal in banning people is to try to enforce clearly laid out rules and standards. Stuff like "is kind of a creep," "is kind of a worthless poster," "cares too much about their favorite game company's sales" isn't really actionable. Our goal (again, you might disagree with whether or not we succeed at this) isn't really to make qualitative assessments about overall post quality and ban people we think are shitty. Such subjective assessments about contribution will invariably influence banning, but the goal really isn't to decide "this person sucks" and write "you suck" ban reasons while issuing bans.

And -- for what I would assume would be obvious reasons -- I'm not going to comment other people's actions (in reference to you alluding to bish and EviLore).

In closing, I'll just accept that I suck anyway because this thread doesn't need these long, shitty posts from me. It's really simple. There are good mods over there and there are bad mods over there. And there have been some awful mods over there in the past. I think anecdotally from what I've seen the modding has improved in recent years. It's probably best to not throw a blanket statement at all the mods.

When you get that many people on a forum you are going to have a large mass of idiots. It's just the numbers. And people who want to show out in front of the crowd by being a public idiot. I wouldn't envy any mod there for having to deal with that stuff.
