I, uh, do the Europeans in that thread actually know the abortion laws in their own countries let alone the US, because they aren't all that dissimilar as they seem to think and came about in the same time frame (1970s) as Roe v. Wade.
I mean, a lot of European countries are more restrictive than many states you just don't have a good number of religious dopes with lots of free time standing outside with pictures of aborted fetuses. Of course there certainly isn't the organized religious nor mainstream opposition to the scale it is in the US, but that alone doesn't make Europe an automatically enlightened bastion of equality. As for "cost" or "access" discussions that would really have more to do with the health care system in general than abortion specifically I would think.
