Ask you mom about hers first so we can compare notes.

She says 20. I'm betting you got her beat by about 5 years at the least.

I should post fake looking for advice threads with situations from my early 20s but present them as happening to me now.

I'd love to hear GAF's advice about what I should have done when I was on a romantic vacation and my (then) partner got a text from a dude saying he, "loved and missed [them] too."  :lol

I haven't read that thread since I was posting helpful alternative scenarios earlier, but it was amusing how many of the responses were assuming either/and:
1. Leaving the list was some kind of passive-aggressive move to TELL HIM SOMETHING.
2. That she carries about a list of people she's banged constantly and how this is INSANE. THERE'S NO POSSIBLE EXPLANATION FOR EVER MAKING A LIST!
3. That she's constantly spending time with ALL TEN OF THESE GUYS ALL THE TIME AND WITH HIM THERE.
4. After you have sex with someone you can't ever associate with them again.

Plus the dudes who were all "END IT BRO, YOU CAN'T ALLOW THIS KIND OF THING, I'D KICK HER OUT IMMEDIATELY" as if there wasn't anything worse than possibly willful obfuscation.

4 was the best, especially the people getting super antsy about it because it just doesn't register with them. So much attachment and desperation projected.

I think at this point, the Wii U might be absolutely beyond saving due to the absolutely horrid word of mouth that games journalists are putting out on it. I honestly think that has been the single most damaging factor on this whole situation.
I say this because the other day, a friend of mine said that they could pick up a Wii for $150, and was asking if this was a good deal or not. It didn't come with any games, and I'm not sure if it came with controllers or not. Now, I'm not aware that $150 is a good price or not, but that's beyond the actual point. When he posted this, this was the day that the $200 Nintendoland Deluxe bundle was shown to be $200. I suggested that he consider that, as Nintendoland is an AMAZING couch multiplayer game, the system could play all Wii games, and he'd effectively be getting a better system for just the cost of the game he'd be playing.

His response? There was no way in hell he would ever get a Wii U, citing reasons like "Wii has cheaper local multiplayer (...wut?), and the system was already abandoned (...wasn't the Wii literally abandoned like 3 years ago, instead of being on Nintendo-only life support?).
Nevermind the fact that neither of those reasons make any sense, this guy was completely against getting a Wii U even though it's just a completely better buy given the price he was considering. And no, he never once mentioned Gamecube support, nor have I ever heard him mention one. He didn't want one, even though it would do -everything- he wanted it to do, and then some.

This is absolutely shocking to me -- Nintendo's problem isn't wholly marketing, it's that the entire gaming journalism scene has it out to completely destroy Nintendo's reputation, to the point where a no brainer purchase becomes completely out of the picture. What the hell happened here? I seriously hope that "Nintendoomed" doesn't end up being a self fulfilling prophecy, because that would be some major bullshit, as the Wii U is, IMO, a wonderful machine.

it's amazing how it falls back to marketing or exterior forces; not a product, you know, being shit.

As gamers we tend to have a mostly objective point of view, the same goes for journalists. When it comes to the general consumer though, especially younger ones, simply owning the "cool device" is enough incentive to own it. Last gen Wii was a cool device, before that PS2 was a cool device. Conversely these people do not want to own the "uncool" device no matter how unreasonable their logic. During that generation the GameCube had a toxic image. WiiU is much closer to that than it is to the Wii. People don't want to own it, and they will in fact go out of their way to avoid owning it
This guy gets it. Iwata better keep checking over his shoulder for Chuck Norris.

EDIT: Also, imagining people "[going] out of their way to avoid owning it" is awesome.  :lol

I don't have a problem with saying the Wii had a period where it was a "cool" device along the lines of Guitar Hero for certain groups at the same time or a bit before. Just anecdotal really but it felt that way for about a year, maybe two. 2007-ish. Which I've always assumed is one reason why it never sold too much other software despite so many units out there. More broad groups of college students/later-20s and people who watch Ellen aren't too interested in MadWorld probably. I mean, even kids get "regular" games at christmas, birthdays, etc. But a Wii Sports/Guitar Hero/Wii Fit/Zumba Fitness focused cleavage wouldn't seek to broaden their library as much I wouldn't think. But what do I know I'm spit balling without even looking up ANY numbers at all.

EDIT: to note that this isn't defending Mr. Norris' theory, just suggesting that there was a period of time where the Wii did seem to be a "cool" thing for the mass-market

I have been open about being a PC/Wii gamer this last gen for some time now and my parents have been supportive and understanding throughout the entire period no matter how hard it must have been for them.

I've been on forums about video games for 15 years now and the marketing and secret press conspiracies angle hasn't changed a bit.

Nintards seem desperate to think that it is something other than the Wii U being a terrible value for the consumer because Nintendo has never made a mistake...ever.  Or that people are no longer wowed by a new 3D Mario, that the tastes of the gamers have changed since 1995.  No, it must be a secret press conspiracy and once people realize that the Wii U isn't a tablet accessory for the Wii, everything will click in place and the Wii U will sell faster than hot cakes.
🍆🍆

It's amusing to see otherwise mature people turn into 12 year-olds when talking about their video game consoles. Like, who gives a shit if you like the Wii U. If you can't see it's a fucking failure of a product, you need help.

(I own one tho)

My mom played the Wii.  That was the first time in my entire life I saw her play a game.

She now plays the occasional Facebook game, but in 2006 I was legitimately surprised.

The Wii's success came about because it attained a non-gamer perception as being THE must-own thing at the time, like Teddy Ruxpin and Bennie Babies.

I can't help but think deep down inside, Vince Campanella is angry that his new "baby" Titanfall isn't on the PS4. I guarantee you it would be running MUCH better than it is on the XB1.

It might not be full 1080p on a PS4, but it sure as hell wouldn't be dropping to a single-digit slideshow when just walking around a corner inside a building...

He'll never admit it publicly, but I just have this feeling from the tone of his Tweets that he's not happy about the XB1's hardware issues. Or EA's backroom deals with Microsoft.

Well, we'll see when T2 comes out.  If they add a decent single player campaign I'll give it a shot then.

Doesn't such a severe drop point to some kind of programing problems and not hardware capabilities?
