Beating your children is terrible, and its prevalence in the black American community is a large part of why we have fucked values.
However I feel about spanking I'm gonna single this out as another exaggeration/simplication in the mountain of exaggerations/simplications you tend to deal in.
But also an opinion thing so whatevs.
Disagree. It isn't an exaggeration or simplification at all.
You only need to look at how often media with black people in it stresses beating your child.
People joke about it all the time, but it's a very serious problem.
You only need watch the Boondocks video posted on this page as evidence. Domestic violence is glorified by black media, and beating/spanking your child is often seen as the thing to do.
Of course, not everyone does this for punishment, but saying that it's not a serious problem is wrong, I feel. That said, it's mostly tied to poverty, so it's likely not to end any time soon.
