My ears are just fine.  I guess it helps that I practice basic hygiene.

Puds/buds are great for their mobility. You can just stick that shit in your pocket and be able to listen to some tunes on the go whenever you desire. Or even at home it's just nice not to have a cumbersome chuck of plastic crammed over your skull.

i don't think they look bad, just kind of casual and sport-y. maybe it's the red contrast details on most of their product that make it look that way to me. they don't stand out to me vs a lot of what you'd find in a mall and so on, probably just better built and engineered.

then again i kind of prefer that rigid germanic aesthetic for my electronics.

The fact that Dre doesn't use Beats while mixing music tells you everything you need to know. They're fine for most casual folks and I'm sure they'll release more budget friendly products soon in light of the Apple deal, but if you want top tier headphones buy some Sennheisers.

I think they're popular amongst hip hop fans because bass sounds pretty good on Beats. And of course the Dre cosign. He could stick his name on a dildo and get hardbody dudes to buy it.

Beats are great just as a reference tool for friends when recommending headphones. Better/worse in value than a pair of Solos is an easy to understand concept. You tell someone to look into Grado, AKG, Sennheiser, etc without context and everything you say is just going to wash out anyway.

AKG and Audio-Technica 44444 lyfe tho, Q701s are my daily set. I loved my 595s and 555s but apparently I'm the only person in the world who ever got poor build quality from Sennheiser because both blew out within a year

This is me too.     Had the same pair of cheapo Sony earbuds for like six years.  They broke so I went to a CVS on a break and picked up a pair of $20 Philips earbuds to replace them.  They sound fine to me.  Just don't give a fuck.

I never quite understood the Origin hate. It works. Most people just seem to hate it on principle. The only ligitimately insane thing about it was the fact that their forum accounts were identical with the Origin account, so if you got banned on their forums, your Origin acocunt got flushed as well.

I can't imagine Dre is using cans, no matter the quality for mixing, that's mainly done on monitors. Maybe as a backup or in recording sessions. Studio headphones are more or less for homeproducers that can't afford big monitors/room treatment or for composing stuff on a laptop on the road.

Also, just because monitors or cans aren't usable for mixing doesn't mean that they can't be excellent for listening. Seems like a trend that audiophiles prefer exact sounding gear over "sweetening" high level stuff though. Not defending the beats here, just saying in general.

I have some cheapo Sony headphones that I got at Best Buy for $7.  Seems to work fine.  I don't listen to enough music to want to spend big money on great headphones.
